“If I remember correctly, I saved you. But in case you need more, there’s plenty more where that came from. Just let me know.” She gestured at the many pillows on the bed.

“If that’s the case, I’d like another—” the second pillow hit him in the same spot on his head. Olivia laughed even harder.

“Okay, that one really hurt,” he said with a smile, running a hand through his thick head of hair.

She reached for another pillow. “Her ladyship has another, if Sir Christian so desires.”

“All right then, how about I give it a try?”

He grabbed one of the pillows she’d tossed at him and held it over his head, aiming at her. Olivia laughed and stretched out her hand to protect her face as she retreated to the far end of the bed.

“No don’t,” she pleaded, glancing at his arm that held the pillow aloft. His muscular bicep filled his shirt.

“Do what? Oh, you mean . . . this?” He tossed a pillow at her—softly. It barely touched her face, but she dramatically stumbled back, falling on the bed. She groaned and rubbed her face.

Christian gasped and rushed to her side. “Are you okay?”

She said nothing, her face still buried in a pile of pillows and blankets.

“I’m sorry, Olivia. I thought I barely threw it and—”

He stopped the moment her body began to shake with laughter. She rose from the pile of pillows. Christian rolled his eyes and gave her shoulder a soft punch.

“I take back my apology.” He went back to making his bed on the floor with the extra blankets and pillows. “But what do I expect from someone in cat pajamas.”

Olivia sat up, pushing the stubborn strands of her hair back. “Hey! Low blow!”

He looked up with a grin and dropped one of the pillows at the top of the blanket he’d spread out on the floor. “Excuse me, my lady. May I have my other pillow back?” he asked, smoothing out the blanket.

The pillow thumped against the side of his head, and Olivia giggled again.

“I’ll be a gentleman and let that one slide.”

“How noble of you,” she said.

He glanced up, and she smiled before looking away. There was no way she could hold that gaze, not with how intense it was.

“I’ll uh . . . get out of this if that’s okay?” he asked, looking down on his pants and then pointed at the wooden room divider in the corner of the room next to the fireplace. She nodded without looking up.

He walked behind the room divider. Olivia waited until he was out of sight before staring at it. She noticed a small crack in the middle and looked away. Pressing against the headboard of the bed, she listening to the sound of his pants unbuckling. She heard him wince; he’d probably released the sleeve around his right arm.

Don’t look! Don’t look!

But as if something else was controlling her body, her face turned toward the divider once more—and she looked. A hot rush of excitement spread though her entire body when she saw Christian’s muscular abdomen through the crack. He stood half-naked on the other side. God, he is all muscles! She jerked her head away, her hands shaking.

“Umm . . . So I’ll just come out now, with boxers on,” he said.

Good!

Olivia bit her lip at her thoughts. “Yeah, that’s fine. I don’t have pants for you but my workout t-shirt is hanging over the chair next to the divider. You could change your shirt if you want. It might be large enough.”

“Thanks.”

She saw him step out from behind the divider to grab the blue t-shirt from the chair. He was only wearing boxers and his entire naked chest was now revealed. The soft light of the fire glistened on his tan, muscular skin. Gosh, he had an amazing body! He looked up for a second as he grabbed the shirt and put it on. Olivia turned away quickly. She could feel her palms start to sweat. Had he seen her watching him? While Christian wasn’t necessarily built like a body builder, he had a lean, naturally muscular frame.

Her eyes fell on the bandage on his upper arm. It was bloody. There was a dark red patch that spilled down his arm in light streaks.

She saw the scratches when she watched him clean his own wound and put the bandage on earlier in the library. Long and red, three of them about an inch deep and five inches long.
