Her eyes widened even more but her mouth remained closed. She didn’t utter a single word which pissed me off even more. She always said what was on her mind. No matter who was involved. And she never let Tanner know in the beginning that he scared her but now, that fear rolled off her in waves.

“We have to do something,” I muttered.

“I know,” Sunny growled.

Both of us watched them.

We were helpless. Absolutely utterly fucking helpless. With another man’s hands on Meadow, I knew that this could possibly hurt her in ways that Sunny and I weren’t prepared for. She already had issues with another man trying to take from her what she never consented to, but this was somehow…worse.

“I’ll call my mom,” Meadow finally said, her voice rough like she had just gargled with broken glass.

Tanner kept his arm around her waist and handed her a phone. “I don’t suggest doing anything stupid. My boys have been itching for blood for a while now. I’d hate to see them take that out on Sunny and Shade.”

As if he needed his point made, the guys behind us cocked their guns.

After a few click of the keys, Meadow put the phone to her ear. “Hey, Mom…I—”

The phone was suddenly snatched from her. Tanner shoved her to her knees. “You think I’m stupid, don’t you?”

My heart jumped.

Tanner pressed a button.

“Your call could not be reached. Please hang up and try again.”

“Shit, pet,” Sunny murmured.

Meadow’s jaw clenched; her gaze hard. “I’ll get you what you want but I’m not calling her. If I did that, my dad would know something was wrong.” She shoved to her feet, much to Tanner’s surprise. “I don’t give a shit what you do to me but if you hurt them, I’ll unleash more firepower on you and your little club than you’ve ever seen, asshole.”

Just when I thought Tanner was going to hit her, he threw his head back and laughed.

Taking that as my chance, I went to her and pulled her away from him, not caring in the least that guns were aimed at us. I needed her in my arms and to let her know that we would do anything to get her out of this.

Her body was stiff, but she latched onto me. “Get me out of here. Please.”

I didn’t like the desperate tone of her voice. Pushing her into Sunny’s arms, I took a step toward Tanner.

His laughter died, his gaze hard and determined. “Get me what I’m looking for or next time I won’t be so nice.” He snapped his fingers and went back around to the other side of his desk.

The men moved away from the door, letting us leave.

Not arguing, I led the way.

Sunny kept Meadow’s hand in his and followed me.

My bones were tense beneath my skin. The tiny hairs on my body tingled. My heart beat so damn hard, it was like it was trying to escape the walls of my rib cage.

Once we reached the SUV and Sunny tucked Meadow safely into the back seat, I joined her. Pulling her against me, I pushed my face into the crook of her neck. I took a deep inhale and then another, needing every ounce of her to make me feel better.

I was vaguely aware of the driver’s side door opening and the engine starting. Instead, I was focused solely on the woman invading my senses.

“Shade,” she whispered, inching her hands beneath my shirt.

When her fingers came into contact with my skin, a growl escaped me.

My teeth found the side of her neck, earning me a soft gasp.

Her hands ran around to my back and higher beneath my shirt, holding me against her. “I’m fine. We’re fine, baby.”
