WHEN TANNER HAD GONEback inside the club, I went to run after him when Sammy stopped me. I had struggled against him and even kicked him in the shin but that didn’t stop him.

“I don’t give a shit how hard you kick me, Bee. I’m not letting you run after him.”

I knew he wasn’t doing it to be mean and that he was only looking out for me, but it still didn’t make me any less mad that he was stopping me.

Now I was sitting in the back seat of Cyrus’s SUV, waiting. “I don’t know why you won’t let me go in there. It’s not like I would do anything. I just want to make sure he’s okay.”

“Tanner is a big boy. He can take care of himself,” Cyrus said, leaning an elbow on the windowsill.

“You know. I’m getting sick of being your damn babysitter.”

My head whipped around. “Excuse me?”

Sammy glared at me. “You heard me.”

“I never asked for this. I never asked for any of this.”

“Sure.” Sammy slipped out of the vehicle and lit up a smoke.

I stared after him. Even though Sammy had always been the hothead between them, it still hurt to hear him say how he really felt.

Instead of dwelling on it, I opened the door.

“Johnny, I don’t suggest doing that.”

I didn’t listen to Cyrus and left the SUV, slamming the door shut behind me.

Sammy chuckled but he didn’t look my way. He just continued puffing on that damn smoke while leaning against the hood of the vehicle.

“You know.” I stepped in front of him. “I hope you find a woman one day who drives you absolutely crazy.” I placed my hands on my hips. “I hope she gets in so deep under your skin that you can’t do anything about it. All you can think about is her. And I also hope that she slaps that stupid smug grin off your face.”

Sammy raised an eyebrow, something flashing behind his eyes.

Cyrus had briefly mentioned someone he referred to as Red. It made me wonder if Sammy had already met the woman I wished on him and that was why he was all of a sudden grumpier.

I searched Sammy’s face, looking for a sign or any sort of indication that there was someone, anyone, who could knock him down a peg or two. He was a cocky fucker. I loved him dearly. He was family. But he needed to leave me alone.

Before he could say anything like I knew he wanted to, the door to the back of the club opened.

Tanner stepped out of the building, followed by a couple of other guys I didn’t know.

“You love him,” Sammy said suddenly, stepping up beside me.

“I do.” With more than I ever thought I had to give.

“If he hurts you, I’ll end him,” Sammy said, his voice so low, I wasn’t sure I heard him properly.

“I know.” I knew it was his way of apologizing.

Much to my surprise, Sammy kissed the side of my head. “Go to him.”

Doing as I was told, I headed toward Tanner.

One of the guys clapped him on the back and pulled him into a hug.

My heart warmed at the sight before me.

The big guy who had driven me from Uncle Greyson’s place to this club, went up to Tanner and gave his shoulder a squeeze before walking toward me. “You good?”
