“If you’re going to shoot me, do it. Stop being a pussy, Kian.” I took a step closer to him, going toe-to-toe with him. He was bigger than I was but at that point, after everything that had happened in the last twelve hours or so, I no longer cared if he put a bullet between my eyes. “Do it,” I said, egging him on.

Kian pulled the gun back, cupped my nape with his free hand and shoved the end of the pistol against the wound in my shoulder.

“Fuck.” The pain shredded through me, my knees almost giving out at the agony.

“Uncle Kian, stop,” Busy demanded, but her uncle didn’t budge. No, instead, he smirked like the cocky fucker that he was.

“You see,” he said, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “I don’t need the money. I’ll kill you for free. I heard that you’ve been a bad little boy and have been messing with my brother in-law’s family.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I bit out through clenched teeth. But I did. Busy’s father was going to kick my ass.

“Oh, but I think you do.” Kian pushed the tip of the barrel into me hard, forcing a muffled groan to escape my mouth.

“Stop!”

All heads turned at the sound of the deep voice booming from the entrance of the club.

Much to my surprise, Nero Wolf, known as Shadow on the streets, came toward us. “What the hell is going on?”

“I thought you were out of town,” Kian said, lowering the gun and taking a step back.

“Not that it’s any of your business but I was bored, and my granddaughter called, needing help.”

“You called him?” Kian asked, spinning on his niece.

Busy rolled her eyes, stepping up beside her grandfather. “None of you guys were listening to me, so I figured you would listen to Grandpa. He’s the smart one who actually listens to what I have to say.”

Talk to me, beautiful girl. I’ll listen to you. I’ll listen all motherfucking day. Just give me those pretty eyes.

As if she could hear me, Busy glanced my way, a flush hitting her cheeks.

Her looking at me, eased some of the strain on my body. I wasn’t sure why or how, I didn’t even care to explain it, but Ididknow that I needed her.

“Tanner, it seems you’ve caused quite the ripple in my little family.” Nero spun on his heel. “Follow me.”

Kian looked between his father and me. “Dad.”

Nero stopped, raising an eyebrow. “Problem?”

Kian shifted. Even though he was now the president, Nero had built a reputation for himself. Coming from South Africa and a dangerous part at that, he had to earn his way to the top. Literally. I didn’t know what he had to do to survive. I didn’t even want to know. I had always kept out of his business. If our paths ever crossed, it was a get in, get out kind of situation. I never asked questions. I highly respected the guy and I knew when to back down, tuck my tail between my legs, and do as I was told.

“Tanner,” Nero barked. “You and Beatrix will come with me.” He looked past me. “Cyrus and Sammy, if my son-in-law calls you asking for his daughter, you tell him that she wanted to come visit me. Nothing else. Understood?”

“Yes, Sir.” Sammy saluted him.

Cyrus grunted, pulled an unlit smoke from behind his ear, and stuck it between his lips.

“I thought you quit,” Nero pointed out.

“And I thought you kept your nose out of other people’s business,” Cyrus threw back at him.

Nero grinned. “Funny.” He turned to me. “Tanner, follow me.Now.”

My feet carried me forward on their own accord.

Nero Wolf wasn’t one you wanted to mess with. I always enjoyed skirting the law and messing with fate, but even I wasn’t stupid enough to argue with the guy. He was older and no longer president of Mayhem’s Revenge, but he still had a say in what went on in their club. I almost wished I could have been a part of their crew. Or even Hell’s Harlem. I had always envied their brotherhood. But I didn’t trust people, so it could never work. I didn’t even trust myself half the time. As much as I wanted that family type dynamic, I knew once this was all said and done, that I would retire and no longer be a biker. It was only a matter of time before that happened.

“What happened tonight?” Nero asked, pulling me from my thoughts and stopping at the end of the long hall before turning toward me.
