But as much as I didn’t want him to be, I knew that there was only one way I could make this work. I just hoped Busy forgave me for it.

Bee

WHEN I MADE SUREthat both Tanner and I were presentable, I answered the door. Uncle Greyson stood on the other side of it. I expected him to demand why I was in Tanner’s room but instead he looked between us, scowled, and walked away.

“Tanner,” he barked. “Follow me.”

Tanner grumbled a curse and came toward me. “Don’t give up on me,” he murmured, his fingers grazing my hip.

“Never.”

When Uncle Greyson wasn’t looking, Tanner kissed my temple and followed him out of the den and up the stairs to the main floor.

I did the same, finding Cyrus and Sammy standing by the door to the room where the club usually held their meetings.

Uncle Catch was sitting on a stool by the bar, talking on his phone.

Just when I was about to ask Uncle Greyson what was going on, Shade and Meadow both walked into the house.

My eyes widened.

Roy Allen, known as Shade, had bags under his eyes and graying in his hair. He looked like he had aged years in such a short time. They had lost Sunny over seven months ago. While I was sure they were still mourning their loss, the air around them was no longer thick with a sadness that I felt down to my bones. No, now it was just filled with rage instead.

“I can’t believe it.” Meadow stopped suddenly.

Shade went to her side. “Fucking hell.”

I looked between everyone.

Bodies shifted.

Murmurs sounded.

Mumbled curses followed.

“You said he was here but I almost didn’t believe it myself.” Shade took a step toward his target.

Tanner.

“What the fuck are you doing here? Have any more members of our family that you’re wanting to kill off?” Shade closed the distance between them and grabbed Tanner by the collar of his hoodie. “Do you?”

“Shade.” Uncle Greyson went to them but never pulled Shade away from Tanner.

“I didn’t kill him,” Tanner ground out.

Meadow laughed then. “Right and you didn’t put us through hell either. What is it, Tanner? You got what you wanted but it wasn’t enough for you. Was it?”

“You have no idea what you’re fucking talking about.” Tanner shoved out of Shade’s grip, pushing him back.

He stumbled a bit, his brow raising.

Tanner was much smaller in size.

Shade had a good fifty pounds on him but the strength rippling from Tanner, clearly shocked him.

“What do you want?” Meadow demanded, stepping up to her husband’s side.

Shade brushed his hand down the side of her swollen stomach, staring down the man they had accused of destroying their lives.
