“No one crank calls people anymore, Moonbeam. You get spam and shit on Facebook.” Zach shook his head. “It doesn’t matter. It’s just fucking with me.”

“Don’t tell Dad,” I warned. “He’d blow up the interwebs before you could even think about getting another phone.”

“I know.” Luna grabbed Zach’s hand. “I’m fine.”

“Well I’ll leave you two to deal with this.” I chuckled, giving my sister a hug. “I need a beer.” I didn’t but since I couldn’t find Gigi, I went to the bar to grab another drink anyway. Might as well enjoy myself.

Several people came up to me for the next half hour or so. They wished me a happy birthday, said how much fun they were having, and how they had never been to a party like this one. Some even said they had never been to a strip club before.

I thanked them and made the appropriate comment, but there was still no sign of Gigi. Anywhere. Did I scare her off? Had I been too rough the night before? Did I read into things wrong and she didn’t want to explore this further with me?

I slumped my ass on a nearby stool and downed my beer but even that left a sour taste in my mouth.

“Son.”

My head whipped around.

My mom and dad came toward me. The sight of them walking hand in hand made me look away. Their love never used to bother me before but when I had a girl who was closed up tighter than a nun’s—

“Vince.” Mom’s gentle voice pulled me from the stool and right into her arms. “Hey.” She hugged me, giving me that special hug that only moms could give. “What’s wrong, sweet boy?”

Before I could answer her, something caught my eye.

Gigi was talking to Ashton and Aiden. She laughed every so often, the sound hitting me square in the dick, but as hard as it made me, it pissed me off more that she had been ignoring me all night.

“Vince.” Mom leaned back. “You good?”

“I’ll be back.” I kissed her cheek and pushed away from her. My feet took me out of the large room and toward Gigi.

Ashton looked my way first. He raised an eyebrow, a slow grin spreading on his face.

I stomped toward the woman I had spent the night and morning with, wondering why the hell she had been avoiding me for the past couple of hours.

Gigi’s head turned in my direction, her eyes widening.

Yeah, beautiful. I see you. I caught you. And I’m going to make you pay for disappearing on me.

As I was about to catch up to her, my best friends blocked my path.

Rory Jaxon and Mason Houle, guys I had grown up with, were mouthing shit that I couldn’t focus on.

“Move,” I finally heard myself say.

Rory’s girlfriend, Tenise Webber, joined our little huddle.

“Did you see the stripper Ashton got for you?” Mason asked, his brows waggling. “She’s hot as fuck.”

“Don’t care.” I went to push between them when Rory stopped me.

“What’s your deal, Vince?” He cupped my shoulders, spinning me around. “We need to do a shot.”

“No.” I tried shoving away from him. I loved him but right now, he was pissing me off. “I need—”

“Vin.” Tenise took that moment to step in front of me. “What’s wrong? It’s your birthday. You’re supposed to be having fun and right now, it looks like you’re on a rampage.” She looked at Mason. “Let him go.”

Mason shifted behind me. “But—”

“Seriously.” She stomped past me and pushed Mason back. For someone who was tiny, she had some strength behind her.
