“I don’t know why either.” He shook his head. “He won’t tell me what his deal is.” He reached out, cupping my cheek. “We’ll spend a little longer here and then I’ll take you out for food.”

I nodded, the air rolling off of him making me uneasy. We can head back if Sammy needs you.

“No.” Cyrus’s brows narrowed. “Ineed you. He’s moping about something, and I honestly don’t give a shit at the moment.”

He did but I wasn’t going to call him out on it. I didn’t know much about his relationship with his brother. I assumed they were close but maybe they weren’t as close as I thought they were.

“You’re staring, pet.” Cyrus leaned down to my ear. “As much as I like your eyes on me, the sooner we finish here and get food, the sooner I can take you home and we can have dessert.”

A husky laugh left me, my body heating at the idea of him being inside me again.

“Hmm...” He linked his fingers with mine. “My girl likes that idea.”

I nodded even though he already knew the answer.

“She likes that idea a lot.” He kissed the spot by my ear. “Your man likes that idea too.”

My man. God, I loved the sound of that. I leaned back, staring up at him.My man? Really?

He shrugged, the movement almost strange coming from him, seeing as how big he was. “If you want of course. I won’t pressure you, but I like you, Ainsley. I like you a lot. This is our second date or third if you count the first night I slept at your place.”

We’ve had many dates at my place.I smiled. And I like you too, Cyrus, and I would like to continue this. If you want.

He grinned, placing a hard peck on my mouth. “I want. You have no idea how much I want.”

I giggled, cupping his jaw.

Cyrus pulled away, giving me another wink and slipping his fingers in mine. “Let’s get you some books.”

Once I chose which ones I wanted, Cyrus helped me by carrying my bag of books. Even though they were purchased, he still helped me get a library card for whenever I was in the area. Even if I never used the card, I still stared at it in awe that I actually had one.

“You’ve never had a library card before, have you?” he asked, as if he could read my thoughts.

I shook my head, wishing I could have been more normal for him.

“Hey, it’s not a big deal.”

But it was. Maybe not for him but it definitely was a big deal for me. There were a lot of things I had never done before, but I hoped that with Cyrus’s help, that maybe one day I could.

We had quickly gonefor a bite to eat but both of us were suddenly on edge, so much so that I couldn’t even taste the food once it hit my tongue. We ended up getting most of our meal to go and ate in the SUV on the way home.

Once we stood outside my apartment door, I expected Cyrus to kiss me goodnight and leave like he did after the first date we went on. But this time, he stared down at me. Waiting.

I took a deep breath, unlocked the door and stepped into my apartment. I figured he would follow me but when I turned and saw that he was still standing at the door, I realized then that he was waiting for an invitation.

His dark eyes were locked with mine, his body rigid and stiff. He was waiting. For my permission. For my words. For me to tell him that I needed him. I did. I needed him more than I had earlier that day.

Placing my bag on the floor by the wall, I pulled off my sweater. Keeping my eyes on Cyrus the whole time, I hoped that with me removing my clothing, he would get the hint.

Letting the sweater drop to the floor, I backed up and started unbuttoning my jeans.

His eyes darkened, his tongue peeking out to lick along his bottom lip. He stepped over the threshold, closed the door behind him, and clicked the lock into place.

I took a step to the right and began backing up down the hallway leading to my bedroom.

Cyrus followed, his steps slow and powerful. I could feel the anticipation the closer he got to me.
