I swallowed hard at the thought.

“Yes, that’s what I’m saying. If the babies were Will’s, which I know is impossible, then he would do everything he could to keep Amber safe. But because they aren’t, he doesn’t care who he has to go through to get his point across.” Shawnee grabbed my hands, holding them tight. “I’m sorry. Will is unhinged and deeply disturbed. It’s like because he can’t have you, no one can.”

“But I’ve never hinted for more with him. Even after Aaron died, I told Will exactly what I wanted from him.” I pulled from her and dropped my head in my hands. “God, this can’t be happening.”

Sammy wrapped his arm around my shoulders, kissing my temple. “He’s sick, pet.”

“You need to keep my girl safe,” Shawnee said. “And I’m sorry for jumping down your throat.”

He shook his head. “Don’t worry about it.”

“But I do,” she said, covering my hands with hers. “I worry about her. I saw Amber after that accident. I saw how she was, the beating she took and the...”

I glanced at Sammy.

“I was there with her for all of the recovery,” Shawnee continued.

“I’ll take care of her,” Sammy told her, looking directly at me.

“He will,” I reassured her.

“I know.” Shawnee gave me a hug. “I love you. Sammy’s good for you. I see it. I’m going to spend a few days with Emma. She’s taking Penny’s death hard.”

“Be safe.” I gave her a hug. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” She squeezed me one last time before pulling away and leaving the ambulance.

The EMT took that moment to join us once again. “We good now?”

“Yes.” I pulled the blood pressure cuff off my arm and slid off the bed. “I need to go home.”

“You need to go to the hospital,” the EMT corrected.

“Come.” Sammy held his hand out. “I’ll take you and then we’ll stop by your place and grab some of your things.”

I let him help me from the ambulance. As soon as I stepped foot onto the ground, we were met with a few police officers.

A woman dressed in a suit came toward us. She was younger. Maybe mid to late thirties. She had a scowl etched on her face that could give Sammy a run for his money.

When she opened her mouth to speak to me, Sammy stepped in front of me. “She’s pregnant with twins and needs to go to the hospital,” he told her.

“Fine.” The woman spun on her heel and started walking away. “We’re following,” she called out.

Sammy turned to face me. “We’re going to go to the hospital, get our babies and you looked at, then we’ll go to your apartment and grab some things. Or we can do that later. A week from now. I don’t give a shit. I just need you with me. Okay?”

“Where am I going after that?” I asked, not wanting to be alone.

He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close. “We’re going to the clubhouse,” he murmured in my ear. “You keep that between us though, alright?”

I nodded. “Take me home, Sam,” I whispered, needing a shower and to get out of here. I needed him.

“Sam, where are you going?”

Both of us turned to Cyrus coming toward us with Jaron following behind him.

“I need to take Amber out of here,” Sammy explained, keeping his arm around me. He hooked his other arm around Cyrus, muttering something in his ear that I couldn’t hear but could guess just the same. It had to do with what Shawnee had told us.

I knew Will used to have a crush on me, but I never realized it had gone further than that. Especially now that he knew I was pregnant.
