“You were attacked?” Red crept over Agone’s skin. “Your brush with death wasn’t from an accident? But an attack?”

Afraid, not for her safety, but for the fury of his reaction, Eden eased away as she nodded.

Transforming once more into his demon alter ego, Agone dropped to a knee in front of her. One hand on her thigh, the other taking her hand. “Tell me who did this and they die this day.”

His vow reached into her chest and touched her heart. And, hand trembling, she reached out to stroke a finger across his horn — it was hard, yet a fine layer of peach fuzz made it feel soft — and down his sculpted cheekbone and solid jaw. He was strange, unique, erotic, and beautiful. A shudder ran through him, and his hands tightened on her body. She yanked her hand away and fold both primly in her lap.

“I don’t know who did this. I know it wasn’t human.”

“Describe it,” Agone urged, his hand still on her thigh. He was so big. Even kneeling, she still looked up at him, saw the concern in his red eyes.

“I-I can’t. I remember, but I don’t remember. It’s like it’s there, but I can’t bring it to the forefront of my brain.” And trying to hurt. “It was light and dark all at the same time.” Additional memories teased her brain, but a wicked headache blossomed at her temples. She clutched her head and curled into a ball as an ice pick stabbed her brain over and over again.

“Move, demon,” Seren commanded. Agone snarled a reply in a language Eden suspected didn’t exist on Earth. “You can’t help her! Only I have the power to heal her. Now move or I will make you move.”

Hands gently grabbed her and lifted her off the sofa. If she had the energy, she would’ve fought the contact because she didn’t want it, not when her head was trying to separate from her shoulders. Cradled in someone’s lap, she gathered her strength to protest when heat seeped from the hand between her shoulders, causing her to arch into it. A palm pressed against her forehead and a wave of energy passed from the top of her head and swept down to her toes. With it, all her pain vanished. Poof.

Her eyes peeled open to see it was Seren’s lap beneath her ass and Seren’s hands on her body. And his face inches away from hers. Strong brows, pronounced cheekbones, a perfect roman nose, a jaw that could cut steel and full lips. Before, they were angry slashes. Now, up close, they were soft, slightly parted, and so inviting. All she needed to do was lean forward and...

What the fuck is happening to me?

Her gaze snapped from his lips to his gold-rimmed blue eyes. The blue shrinking as the gold widened and glowed, hypnotizing her. Dear God, he was beautiful. Drop dead, stop in your tracks and drop your drawers, gorgeous.

There was movement beneath her ass. A gradual hardening impossible to ignore.Move! She would if she had any strength in her legs. Agone helped her out. He lifted her off Seren’s lap and deposited her in the chair Seren vacated on the other side of the coffee table. Agone took her spot on the sofa.

Yay! Let’s play musical chairs. She was grateful, even if she kept it to herself. “Thanks. I can think again.”

“You’re welcome,” he muttered, and scowled at Seren, who shifted in his seat, his hard-on evident.

She could still feel his warm hand on her forehead. It was smooth yet strong. Somehow, she sensed the immense power he controlled. She sensed the same leashed power in Agone, though his power lay at the surface of his being while Seren’s lay deep within, smothered under layers until needed.

“Powers.” They’d strayed off track and she had to get them back on track. Her life depended on it. “What are mine? And I want the pros and cons. I also want to know why and what’s the catch?”

“You don’t know your powers?” Agone said, more to himself than anyone else.

“I wouldn’t’ve asked if I knew.” It became harder and harder not to snap at the two men. They were the damn experts! Not her!

“Your power should’ve manifested during the accident.” Agone stroked his cheek. “Heaven’s eunuch, you said she was attacked. Should be dead, you said.”

Seren sputtered. Eden pressed her lips together to stop her grin as Agone ignored them and continued. “But she survived,” he murmured and studied her with those red-rimmed eyes. Under any other circumstance, she would’ve squirmed and caved. Within seconds, she would’ve given him anything he wanted. Even made it up.

Could Agone smell a lie? Eden was certain Seren could. Lying to an angel would get her nowhere fast. Maybe get her a ticket to Hell. If that ticket included Agone, it wouldn’t be so bad.

“I propose her healing ability is her power,” Seren said.

Agone stroked his smooth chin. “It’s a good power to have. Though not in a heated battle.”

Seren grunted and nodded.

Wow. The two could actually agree on something.Should she be miffed or pleased? Eden wasn’t sure.

“We have to test it,” Agone stated.

“Immediately.” Both rose and by their stares at Eden, they expected her to join them.

Warily, she reared back. “Test what? Me?”

“Swords first,” Seren said.
