She laughed, then stopped in surprise. “You made a joke.”

“I did.” He frowned. “Didn’t think I had a sense of humor?”

“Still don’t.”

A grin tweaked his mouth, and all of her loosened. Her morals had taken a nosedive. Two men. She lusted after two men. Already had one between her legs and wanted another one.

The grin slid from his mouth. He looked away. She did too. “When will Agone return?”

“Missing your demon?”

He didn’t sound jealous. It seemed like a genuine question. “Yeah,” she answered honestly. “I do. He’ll be back.” She wasn’t certain about much, but she was certain about that.

“Of course he will. He’ll never leave you.”

Seren’s certainty surprised her because it was the last thing she expected to hear. “How do you know?”

“He’s bonded to you.”

Denial, confusion, lust, and pleasure. The thought of Agone bonded to her didn’t cause her panic. “Um. I don’t know what that means.”

“You’re lying. I understand why.” He moved to the opposite side of the clearing.

She tracked him. “I’m not lying, and what do you understand?”

“Your track record. None of your lovers have lived up to your expectations. All disappointed you, let you down, broke the bond.”

He knew a lot about her. Was it because he was an angel and just knew her entire history, or did he know from firsthand experience because he watched her? All her intimate moments played out in her mind. Her hands curled into fists. “What do you know about my track record?”

The measured gaze she was accustomed to eased. “Angels are privy to a human’s past. I knew everything about you the moment I...” He looked at his hand as if it were a foreign object. A snarl curled his upper lip. “Touched you.”

He didn’t like touching her. But he’d just had his hands all over her. His cock had been pressed against her ass. “Keep the judgmental attitude to yourself. I’ve had two lovers, and I’m not ashamed of it.”

Seren shook his head as if wiping the slate clean and grimaced. “You have nothing to be ashamed of. It was their loss. Not yours.”

“Damn straight!” she grumbled and kicked the grass.

“They should’ve treasured you.”

She side-eyed him. “Yeah, well, it’s not like I treasured them.” She couldn’t connect. Not with most people and especially not men. She used them. They used her. She wanted nothing from them. Not even sex, really. The two she’d slept she did out of curiosity. The many who tried to get in her pants, she thought something was wrong with her because she couldn’t connect, wanted little to do with them. Until she met Agone and Seren.

And, technically, they weren’t men.

“Come. Daylight is wasting.” He dropped into a fighting stance.

She eyed him suspiciously. “Ahh. Now, what are we doing? I thought we’d called it a day. Get some dinner. I’ve never been to Seattle.”

“No. We train.”

Eden plopped her hands on her hips. She didn’t like the word no. “Ever heard of the word compromise?”

Seren sighed and straightened. “Compromise isn’t in my nature. However, if it will get you to train, I will compromise. What do you want?”

“We train. Then we go out.”

“No.”

“This is not how you compromise. I want dinner. Seafood.”
