“Is that what you thought while you covered me in your blood in my shower?” Ant’s breath catches behind me at her words, but fuck him. I couldn’t give a shit if she forces him to listen to every single thing we’ve done together. It’ll just help prove to him who she belongs to. “Did you do it because you think I’m weak?”

“No, I don’t think—”

“Then tell me the fucking truth, Daemon. About everything. This is bullshit.”

Something on the floor catches her eye. She reaches down to get it a beat before something collides with the wall right beside my head.

I glance down as the crystal hits the carpet with a soft thud.

“Get the fuck away from me. I’m not interested in a word that comes from your lips until it’s the truth.”

“I’ve never lied to you, Angel.”

“You lie to everyone every goddamn day of your life, Nikolas Deimos.”

She turns her back on me, cutting off our connection.

“Come on. We’ll leave your stuff out by the door, Calli. We’ll be in the kitchen if you’re hungry.”

“You should leave, Ant. Being here is dangerous. If anyone finds—”

“I know what I’m doing, Calli. And Daemon is right. Your safety is the most important thing here.”

“If that were true, you wouldn’t have been spending time with me. You knew as well as I did the danger we were putting ourselves in.”

“What’s going on has nothing to do with us.”

A growl rips from my throat at his words.

“But if it weren’t for us, you might not be having such a pleasant time of it right now.”

“Pleasant?” she spits, spinning back around and glaring pure death at him. “You think being drugged—again”—she cuts me with a look—“thrown in a van, and brought here against my will is my idea of a pleasant time?”

“It could be worse, I assure you.”

“Whatever,” she scoffs, turning away from us once more.

“Angel?” I breathe when Ant slips away as she requested.

“I’m not interested. Just leave me alone.”
