Iwasn’t sure if I was making a huge mistake, but I knew I had to do it.I was excited as I made my way toward Central Park.Gabriella had just texted me, and she and Valentina were waiting by the park bench where I’d told her to go.I was so excited to see Valentina.I hoped she wouldn’t walk away as soon as she saw me.I was hoping she’d give me the opportunity to say what I had to say and give her what I had to give her.I pulled out my phone as I checked the map.I was five minutes away.I called Stefano.
“Hey, bro, you on your way?”
“Yeah,” I said.“Is everything okay?”
“It’s fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“Dad was okay?”
“Dad is fine.”
“What about Sergio and Santino?”
“They thought you should have done it a long time ago.”
“They didn’t even know about it,” I said, laughing.
“Yeah, well, we’re all cool, dude.Good luck.”
“Thank you.I appreciate you guys more than you will ever know.”
“We’re your brothers, and blood is thicker than water and money.Now you go and get your girl.”
“Thanks, Stefano.Tell Elise and Sienna I’m thinking about them.I’ll come and visit tomorrow.”
“Will do,” he said.“Let me know how it goes?”
“I will.”I hung up, rounded the corner, and made my way into Central Park.I could see Gabriella and Valentina standing there.Valentina was saying something to Gabriella and looking slightly annoyed.I wonder if Gabriella had told her that they were waiting on me?“Hey,” I said as I walked up to them.
Valentina turned toward me, and her face fell.“Oh, hell no,” she said.And that was when I knew Gabriella hadn’t said anything.
“I’m sorry, Valentina,” Gabriella said quickly.“I spoke to him yesterday.I just really think you guys should have at least one conversation.”
“How could you, Gabriella?I told you what he did.He’s scum.I don’t want to listen to him lie to me some more.”
Gabriella stood there, looking upset.“I’m sorry, Valentina, but he loves you and …”
“No, he doesn’t.He just loves my dad’s money.”
“That’s not true,” I said, shaking my head.
“Yeah, okay.My dad told me everything, Sam.”Valentina glared at me.“About how he hired you so that you would make me fall for you, and I would dump Shane.And then you were going to break my heart so I could run into the arms of Connor.The same Connor you thought you saw me with that day when I got the painting made for you.”
I pressed my lips together.“That’s all correct, but that doesn’t tell you everything about the situation.”
“Whatever, Sam.You couldn’t care less about me.You got money, and you got my body.”She shook her head.“I can’t believe you would be so low.”She pressed her lips together.“Gabriella, come on, let’s go.”
“Wait.Valentina, please?”
“What, Sam?What do you want from me?”
I held up the folder in my hand and handed it to her.
