“Does anyone want anything?”I asked.
I wanted to get Valentina alone, and I hoped that one of my brothers would occupy Gabriella’s time while I tried to get more one-on-one time with Valentina.
“I wouldn’t mind some nachos,” Gabriella said, chewing on her lower lip.“Actually, no.”
“No, if you want nachos, that’s fine.”
“No one else is eating, and I really shouldn’t.”She looked at her body.
“I could go for some nachos,” Sergio said with a grin.“Do you prefer steak, ground beef, shredded pork, or grilled chicken?”
“Um, steak,” Gabriella said with a smile.
“Okay.Sounds good.You going to get them, bro?”Sergio asked me, and I just chuckled and shook my head.
“Sure.Valentina, you want to come with me?”
“Sure,” she said, nodding.“I’d be happy to.Also, I should get to the front because …”
“Because what?”I asked her, curious.
“Because Shane’s going to be here any second.”She held up her phone.“He just texted me.And I know he won’t find us unless I meet him at the front.”
“Shane?”I pressed my lips together.
“Yeah.The guy I told you I was seeing.”
“I didn’t know you invited him.”
“I thought it would be really fun for all of us to hang out together, you know?”
“Okay.”I licked my lips.“Are you sure this is a good idea because…?”
“Why?You don’t think it’s a good idea?”She looked up at me, her eyes widening.“You didn’t think this was a date, did you, Sam?”
My heart stopped for a second, and I could feel myself growing slightly angry.Was this girl playing games with me?“I mean, I kind of did think it was a date, but …”
“I thought you just wanted Gabriella and me to hang out with you and your brothers because you wanted Gabriella to meet some nice guys.”I stared at her for a few seconds.Was she absolutely clueless?Her eyes were twinkling at me.
“Are you making fun of me, Valentina?”
“I don’t know.Am I?”she said with a small smile.Her phone pinged.“Come on, Shane’s here.”
She pushed past me and made her way to the front.I shook my head as I walked behind her.She was something else.
“Hey, Shane,” she said, waving at a very skinny pale guy.He looked up, frowned as he saw her, and walked over.
“What is this place?”He looked around.“I feel like I’m back in ancient Rome in the Colosseum or something.”
“I know.Isn't it cool?”Valentina said and gave him a quick hug.
“I don’t know what I think about it,” he said, sniffing.“I feel like I smell … Is that marijuana?”
“So?”she said.“Cool.Huh?Shane.This is Sam.Sam, this is Shane.”
“Hey, nice to meet you, dude.”
