Icouldn’t believe how badly I’d fucked up.I wanted to be mad at Gabriella, but I really couldn’t be.She was Valentina’s best friend, so of course, she was going to warn her and tell her that I’d been at the bar with someone else.And it was true.I had contemplated leaving with that other woman.Even before Valentina contacted me, I had decided that I wasn’t going to, but she didn’t know that.
I’d made a rash and stupid decision because I’d been jealous of the fact that Valentina had gone on a date with Shane.Which was ridiculous because I wasn’t the sort of guy to get jealous.I was already finding myself drawn to Valentina in ways I’d never been drawn to another woman, and everything was becoming far too complicated for me.
I walked down the street, not wanting to go home but not wanting to go to the bar.I called Stefano to see what he was up to.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Not much.Is Valentina okay?”he said.
“Yeah.I got her home safe and sound.”
“Good, good.”He laughed.“I’m surprised you didn’t stay the night.”
“Why is that?”
“Because you ran out of that bar like her knight in shining armor.I figured she’d want to thank you in the best way possible.”
“You’re a dog.You know that, right?”
“Okay.Anyway, I have something to tell you,” he said, his voice suddenly changing.
“What’s that?”
“Patti messaged me again.”
“What the fuck?I thought you deleted that shit.”
“No.Remember, you sent her a message and then you told me to delete it, but she responded to the message.”
“What did she say?”
“She said she’s not going anywhere and wants to meet.She says that…” He paused.“Well, she says she has something she wants to tell us.”
“Well, okay.She can tell you via message.”
“I’m thinking about meeting her,” he said softly, “just to hear what she has to say.”
“Stefano, really?”
“Really.It seems like she’s not going to stop.And well, I don’t want to just keep going back and forth with this bullshit.I have other things to concentrate on right now.”
“Okay.”
“And I spoke to Elise and—”
“You told Elise?”
“You know I tell Elise everything.And Elise spoke to Sienna.”
“Oh gosh.You know Sienna’s going to tell Dad.”
“No, she’s not, Sam.You know Sienna cares about Dad.She’s not going to hurt his feelings.She was the one who had to deal with all his anger and pain when Mom left.”
“True, she was his first girlfriend after Mom left.But I just don’t want all these people knowing.I just want her to go away.”
“I know, dude.But just because we want her to go away doesn’t mean she’s going to.”
