“It’s okay,” she said quickly.“I don’t want to rush this.”She smiled.“Anyway, I’ll shower and then get ready.”
“Okay,” I said, pulling her toward me and giving her a long kiss.“I’ll make you breakfast so you can have something to eat before you go.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I know I don’t, but I want to.”
She smiled at me sweetly.“You really are an amazing guy.”
“I think that someone likes me.”
“I think that someone does,” she said sweetly.“Okay.”She headed toward the bathroom, and I made my way toward the kitchen and opened the fridge.I had bread, and I had eggs.I decided to make her an egg sandwich, which was something I did quite well.I was frying the eggs when I heard my phone ringing.I answered it without looking at the screen.
“Hey, this is Sam.What’s up?”
“Hello.Is this Sam Valenti?”the deep, familiar voice sounded into the phone, and I froze.
“Yeah, this is Sam.”
“Sam, this is Hamilton.Hamilton Ford.”
“How’s it going, Mr.Hamilton?”
“Good.I just wanted to check in with you and see how everything was progressing.”
“I think it’s going well, sir.”I chewed on my lower lip.I didn’t know what to say.
“Good.I have some good news.”
“Oh?”
“I heard that Shane and Valentina broke up.”
“Well, yeah, I don’t think that was really going to work out anyway.”
“Valentina was telling me she had a young gentleman she wanted me to meet.”Hamilton sounded happy.
“Oh, okay.”
“I’m assuming she’s talking about you unless she’s seeing multiple guys.”He started laughing as if that were funny.I pressed my lips together.
“Well, I’m glad to hear that everything is progressing in the way that you’d like.”
“It’s perfect.I’ve been speaking to Connor, and …”
I froze.“And what, sir?”
“And there’s a business deal that I'm interested in getting into with him.And I kind of would like to introduce Valentina to him, but I don’t quite think she’s ready if she’s into you.So I think we need to go to phase two of the plan.”
“Phase two?”I said, blinking.
“Yeah.You need to dump her.”
“What?”I said.“I barely have gotten to know her yet.I don’t even know if …”
“You’re doing a great job, Sam.I didn’t think you’d be able to accomplish so much so quickly, but I’m very pleased with the progress.Very, very pleased.You dump her soon, and there’ll be a fifty grand bonus in it for you.”
“You already owe us fifty grand,” I said.
