“So the Spidermonkeys are?” Justin asked, reminding Katrina of the band name that had been on the grand reopening flyers.

“The name they’re playing under. I think one of his kids came up with it.” Lorenzo gestured over to where Judith stood talking to Martin and the blonde guitar player, who Katrina believed was named Damien. “You might wanna go over and rescue your wife.”

Justin shrugged. “Rescue Martin is more like it, let’s be honest.”

Katrina watched Martin try to walk away only to have Judith tug on his sleeve, her hands waving as she animatedly attempted to make her point. The look on Martin’s face had Katrina laughing. “Yeah, go rescue Martin,” she said to her brother.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m going. You kids behave now.”

“I...uh, have some stuff to do in the office before all this starts.” Lorenzo was back to busying himself with anything to keep his eyes off Katrina. “I’ll see you in a bit.”

“Stuff with the bar, with Miranda, or just a reason to get away from me?” Katrina wasn’t sure where the boldness was coming from, but it made Lorenzo stop.

It made him look.

It made her suppress a shiver that went through her at the intensity of his gaze.

“I’ll see you in a bit,” he said, softer, and she nodded, her eyes following him as he walked away from her.

CHAPTER 36

While Judith had procuredthem a table near the front, both Justin and Katrina spent more time by the bar, with Katrina running food orders out and Justin happily serving as a bar back, getting ice and filling coolers. It was already a packed house at 9 PM, a full hour before the band was scheduled to play, its members hiding out in the back to keep the surprise.

“I didn’t mean for you to be working tonight,” Lorenzo said to Katrina as she took another tray of food from him.

“I’m having fun,” she replied with a smile. “What table?”

“Ten.”

“On it.”

Katrina knew where each of the tables were situated as she’d gone over Judith’s floor plan many times before it had been approved by Lorenzo. Getting food out to customers, shoving tips into the jar despite Lorenzo saying she could keep them, was keeping her mind occupied. That’s exactly what she needed being under the same roof with the boy who’d taken over her heart once more.

“Food is only served until 11,” he said another time as she passed by.

“So I’ll be free to enjoy the last two sets.”

“Are these Spidermonkeys any good?” a patron who sat at the bar asked, and Katrina smiled at him.

“You’d be surprised,” was all she said, and Lorenzo gave her a knowing grin.

“Trina?” she heard from behind her and she turned to see Debra, whose smile widened. “I thought that was you. You and Cade?” She gestured towards Lorenzo with her head.

“I need to get this to table eight, I’m so sorry. Give me just a minute.” She walked away quickly, unable, or perhaps unwilling to say that no, there was no her and Cade.
