That was probably for the best.

“Martin...well, he’s busy with the bar tomorrow. A shipment is coming in. I don’t know if I should be driving on these meds.” He peered over at her, his head bowed slightly, his eyes locked with hers. “Would you mind taking me home?”

Her heart hammered in her chest.

Her palms were damp with sweat.

Her senses were all on high alert, with Ren touching every nerve ending when he covered her hand with his.

And she was lost.

“What do you say?” he asked, his thumb twitching just slightly causing her stomach to dip.

CHAPTER 17

“Here to spring you.” This was the greeting that Katrina had for Lorenzo early the next morning. Her breath caught in her throat as he looked over his shoulder and grinned.

“I really appreciate this.” He grabbed his duffel bag, which Katrina reached for. Shaking his head, he added, “I’ve got this.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive.”

“Are you all set? Do we need to wait for anyone for discharge?”

“They think they’re wheeling me out of here,” he said as he walked past her, invading her senses, making her pulse hammer.

“Don’t you think they should?”

“Yes,” a nurse replied as she stood at the doorway with her hands on the wheelchair, guiding it into the room. “This is a demand from me.”

“And I,” Katrina said as she reached for his bag, “will take that to the car. I’m in the pickup area, so we should probably hurry before I make anyone angry.”

“Oh, don’t worry about that,” the nurse said, a smile on her face. “We’re here to make all of you comfortable. Even when you don’t want to be. Isn’t that right, Lorenzo?”

This nurse was openly flirting with him.

The surge of jealousy, no matter how small or fleeting, overtook Katrina for a moment before she remembered.

She had no right to be jealous.

He’d gone on to live his life.
