“How many timesdo I have to tell you, Gray–”

“That ‘violence is never the answer?’ At least one more time, apparently,” Rian quipped.

“It got the job done,” Gray said, rubbing his palm over the knuckles of his opposite hand.

We had been escorted from the grocery store–I hoped not permanently, that was the only place to get that coffee, and I did like it–and now the four of us–thefourof us–were at our house. I brewed a pot of tea as I tried to think what to do. We needed caffeine, after all.

I wasn’t worried about Brent. He’d spewed a few threats of lawsuit, but that was unlikely, once our lawyer had drawn up a strongly-worded letter or two.

No, what I was worried about was Madison. Rian, Gray.Us.

“And what job is that? Proving everyone right about what brutes alphas are? That we can’t just talk out a problem, we have to resort to throwing punches at the first opportunity?”

“Nah,” Gray said, an infuriating smirk on his face as he accepted the cup of black tea I passed him. He took a sip, and grimaced at the taste. “Turning Rian on.”

“Jesus, Gray,” Rian laughed, “you can just like, buy a man flowers next time.”

“You want me to buy you some flowers, baby?”

“I like a flower, sure, why not?” Rian responded, waggling his eyebrows over his tea cup.

Madison giggled.

I sighed. “Don’tencourage them.”

“I love it,” she said, and I looked down at her in surprise. I followed her gaze to where Rian was now touching Gray’s thigh. “It’s… nice, that they’re so…” she trailed off.

“Irritating? Infuriating?”

“Confident. In themselves. In each other. You, too,” she added, and I thought back to last night, to the long, long conversation the three of us had had, curled together, Gray then Rian then me, on the nest. We’d followed Rian there, and slept–really slept–all together for the first time since Madison’s heat.

“It’s not always easy.”

“Is it worth it?” She looked up at me.

“Always,” I said. “Yes. Always.”

She smiled, and I knew.

She was ours.

There wasa lot of talking to be done–a lot of details to work out, a lot of plans and arrangements to make, forms to file with the pack registry–but all of the details and plans and forms could wait a day, and we could at least get started on the talking over a celebratory dinner.

“Chez Valentin?” Gray asked.

“I don’t have anything to wear to that,” Madison said, and I watched the other alpha’s eyes darkened. I knew exactly what he was thinking. I was thinking it too.

“On second thought, let’s stay in,” he purred, and Madison flushed pink.

“Thai?” Rian said, hopeful and oblivious.

“That does sound good,” Madison admitted.

“Get lots, then, Luc,” Gray said, never taking his eyes off the omega. His smile was all teeth. “Madison’s going to need the calories.”
