“Where’s Miracle?” I asked. “You two are hardly separable these days.”

“She ran to the store to get some lemons for Grandma. She claims she can’t make lemonade with a Kool-Aid packet, so she sent Miracle out for fresh lemons,” Ishmael said. He looked at the time on his phone, and his eyes narrowed in concern. “She’s been gone about an hour. Maybe she decided to pick up a few extra things.”

I propped against the wall in front of his desk. “What are you doing?”

“Looking at promising developments in Newnan. There’s a location near downtown that’s going to be on the market soon,” he said, scratching his head. “Right now, their price is too high.”

Impressed, I questioned, “The owner has already given you the price?”

“Yes and no. They’ve given Turner Enterprises the price, and our source just sent it to me,” he relayed.

“Damn shame that a man as powerful as Jacob Turner has some rats in the building.” I made a note to check IVCC for any potential rat problems.

Ishmael smirked. “We have ears and eyes everywhere. I’ll keep an eye on it and see if we can get the advantage on the bid.”

“We will,” I assured. “But listen, I came over to discuss our mutual problem. You need Tae gone, and I need his friend, Desi Jakes, gone. Tae isn’t dead already because I need him to lead me to Desi. After all, he has hurt someone important to me.”

“Is it the girl from the grocery store?”

“Yes, and she’s at my house now. Desi is her stupid boyfriend, who put his hands on her. She came to me for help, and I intend to do everything I can to assure he doesn’t bother her again,” I admitted.

Ishmael smirked. “I can tell by the look in your eyes that she’s yours now. You haven’t had that look since Lucia.”

“Yeah, but she’s so much different than Lucia. I cared deeply for Lucia, but I’ll go crazy for Nicole. She’s strong like Lucia, but she has a soft side that just makes me want to hold onto her for safekeeping forever.”

“Alright. I hear you, big homie. When Tae and Desi slip, and we know they will, it’s off with both of their heads.” Ishmael moved his hands in a motion as if he were cutting his neck.

“I’m surprised Tae’s traitorous ass didn’t give up Desi when I asked him about him. He probably doesn’t think I’m going to kill him too. I obviously gave him the impression that he has nine lives. It’s time to change that.”

“Yeah, I wish you had told me he tried to set you up back in the day. I would have known how to deal with him when he came up to me in the mall,” Ishmael said.

I shook my head. “I always tried to keep you from going too deep into mafia business.”

“Well, those days are over. He has threatened my woman, which means I’m one hundred percent in it now. So, how about the decoy? How is that going?” Ishmael asked.

“Yeah, she’s still collecting information, but that’s not really getting us where we need to be. She cozied up to Tae at the V-Bar a few nights ago, and he didn’t have a clue. He doesn’t know we’re on his trails.”

Sitting back in his chair, Ishmael went into deep thought. “I know we’re trying to get them both, but Tae’s too comfortable. He’s freely walking around talking about what he will do to Miracle and talking shit about how Desi used to abuse Nicole. I don’t know if I can wait. I might put a bullet in him soon.”

I wouldn’t put my neck on the line for many people, but I’d make the devil cry for Ishmael and Nicole. When I stepped into the shoes my father couldn’t fill as the Georgia Capo, Ishmael, Prosper, Casper, and Teddy were my ride or dies. That would never change.

“The old team is assembled. Prosper, Casper, and Teddy are ready for anything. Just be patient. The time will come,” I assured him.

While Nicole thought I was busy working on new construction deals, I searched for her ex. My DeLuca famiglia all over Georgia did the same.

The Carzonis were the only crew I hadn't reached out to. Sometime after I handed the ranks to the new Georgia Capo, Marcello DeLuca, our truce with the Carzonis fell through. If it came down to it, I would contact them and get a feel for where their head was these days.

If Desi was still in the state, I would find him. He’d show up sooner or later. When he did, I would punish him for every tear she shed. I would get him back in blood for hurting Nicole.

When his cell phone rang, Ishmael and I had just finished catching up on Desi and Tae’s latest dealings. He smiled, placed the phone on speaker, and set it on his desk. “Hey, baby. What’s taking you so lo—.”

The distinct sound of Tae’s voice came on the line. “You really thought you could put the New DeLuca Mafia on me, and that would just be the end? Nah, big boss. But since you looking for me, find her too. Just know your bitch and her friend will catch a bullet before I will.”

I stormed at lightning speed toward the phone and snatched it up from the desk. “What the fuck did you just say?” Surely, Tae didn’t have my woman.

“Oh, now that I have your attention, I said I got your bitches, both of them,” he said with a resounding smirk.

I heard a loud smack followed by Nicole’s screams. Another smack was followed by Miracle’s screams. “You’re a dead man, a fucking corpse,” was my warning before the line went dead.
