I fuckin’ loved it.

She was drunk off her ass, too. As in, plastered. Not that you could tell.

It was just that she was more than open with everyone, which wasn’t the Banger that I knew and loved.

Loved?

My brain screeched to a halt.

I’d known that I’d liked her.

But love?

That was a foreign concept for me.

Obsession? Yeah, I had that in spades. I was obsessed with her for sure. That had to be why, when I’d learned about her, and what O’Ryan had done to her, I’d had this gut feeling that I just had to make sure she was okay.

It also happened to be why I was in this town to begin with. And why I’d ‘prospected’ with the Battle Crows MC, and eventually made my home here. Why I planted my business where I had.

Because I couldn’t let her go.

Even when she didn’t know I existed, I couldn’t stop thinking about her.

But love?

“Oh, man,” Banger whispered loudly. “Stalker girl comin’ in hot.”

My lips quirked up at that as we came to a stop beside the bike.

Once there, I pulled my cut out of the saddlebags, laid it out over the seat of my bike, and had Banger help me with my tux jacket before shoving it into my saddle bags.

After I had the cut on my back, again with help, I said, “She’s been there the entire time. She’s probably going to follow us there, then to eat, and likely back to my place to make sure that you’re actually serious, and I didn’t just hire you.”

“So we can go? And will she see what I buy in there, too? Does she use binoculars? Or will she just follow us in and act like she wanted to go there, too?” Banger wondered aloud.

She was so fuckin’ cute.

That had to be why I was agreeing to what I was agreeing to.

When I didn’t answer in time, she continued on with her line of questioning.

“Are you wanting to piss her off? Or are you wanting to let her know that you’ve moved on, that she needs to, also, and that you’re happy with where you are? Because all of those will require a different scene in the playbook.”

I looked at her as I straddled the bike and said, “I want her to leave me alone. What play would you suggest for that?”

She followed suit, and I was graced with the look of see-through black lace as she swung her leg over the seat.

I almost died right there on the bike as I waited for her to get situated.

My heart was pounding away in my chest, and goddamn if there wasn’t this really weird feeling in my stomach that was making me practically shake with anticipation.

Was she doing this on purpose?

Swallowing hard, I started the bike and hoped that by doing so, she would cease to exist for a few seconds while I tried to get myself back under control.

It didn’t work.

Not even a little bit.

The only thing I succeeded in doing with my control was unraveling it.

First she put her body against mine. Then she scooted in so close that I could feel the heat of her down below pressed against my ass. It wasn’t until she pressed her head against my shoulder, though, that I realized that I was in this too deep. Way deeper than I ever intended to allow myself to get.

Because when you were in this deep, you made mistakes. You did things that you shouldn’t.

You fell in love with black-haired women that you wouldn’t be able to fall out of love with for the rest of your life.

She was the forever type of girl. The one that you married, had babies with, grew old with, and then felt heartbreak for the rest of your life when she passed away before you.

I’d known, deep down, that she was special. I’d also known that there was something there, whether she chose to acknowledge it or not.

Head in places it really shouldn’t be—like marriages and babies—I drove away, following behind Griffin in his work truck.

“By the way,” Banger said at the first stoplight we reached. “I may need a security detail from now on until we figure out whether she’s really a threat. Because, my God, she’s really into you, and she was fingering something under her boobs the whole time, and I’m pretty sure it was a gun.”

I glanced back over my shoulder to see her.

Banger was tapping her bottom lip with the index finger on her right hand.

I watched it tap, tap, tap so long that I didn’t pay attention to the light in front of me until someone behind me started to honk.

I returned my gaze to the light to see it turn from green to yellow, which was, of course, when I floored it and went through the light.
