“I’ll let you know,” I replied, a rush of embarrassment heating my entire body. Even though I was an adult, the idea of my mother knowing I was possibly having sex tonight wasn’t something I was thrilled about. I decided it was time to move in with Palmer sooner rather than later.

“Have fun, kids!”

When the door shut, Gannon let out another laugh. “Your mom never did have a problem with saying what was on her mind.”

“No, she does not. The sooner I can move out, the better. Ready to leave?”

Gannon looked at me and frowned before motioning for me to precede him. “You’re moving out?”

I nodded as I headed toward the door. “Yep. Palmer said I could move in with her since she has a spare bedroom and bathroom. After the latest gossip column, I figured it was best to get my own place. But for right now, living with Palmer is perfect. She’s sworn off men and has dedicated her life to raising cats.” I grinned. “So, I have no worries about hearing my younger sister have sex in the other room.”

Gannon laughed as he started to open the car door for me. “You know, you’re more than welcome to move in with me.”

I spun around to face him. “We haven’t even started our first date and you’re already asking me to move in with you?”

He winked. “Well, I already know you. I know your likes and dislikes…unless things have changed a lot in the last eight years?”

I shook my head. “Nope.”

“I’ve seen you naked, you’ve seen me naked. I don’t know what else we need to discuss.”

Laughing, I pushed him lightly on the shoulder. “Let’s at least get a few dates in. Can you imagine what the paper would say if the writer found out we’ve moved in together after one date?”

Gannon smirked. “I’m still trying to figure out what you did to make us break up. Should be good reading.”

With a roll of my eyes, I sighed and slipped into his car. “Shut up and take me on this picnic. I’m starving!”

“Your wish is my command, sweetheart.”

I watched Gannon make his way around his Jeep and climb into the driver’s seat. My heart sped up as I tried to figure out where he might be taking me for our picnic. Gannon had always been a romantic, and I wondered if that had changed at all. Glancing out the window, I was soon lost in thought.

How many women had Gannon romanced over the years? Did he take them on picnics too? Special trips? Did he ever think about any of them after it was over?

“Hey, you seem like you’re thinking hard over there. You’re frowning.”

I forced myself to stop. It didn’t matter what Gannon did with those other women. I’d dated as well. Gone on trips with other men. Had sex. But none of them ever made me feel the way Gannon did.

“I’m trying to figure out what I’m going to do with my life since I quit my job, moved back in with my parents, and will most likely be working at the restaurant in the short term.”

Gannon reached for my hand and gave it a squeeze. “You’ll get it all figured out, Addie. Don’t stress about it.”

I gave him a soft smile. “I guess I could always help Palmer with her poop-scooping business.”

That made Gannon toss his head back and laugh.

“Where are we going?” I asked, looking out the window to see that Gannon had indeed driven to the marina.

“On our picnic.”

After looking at him and then back at the marina, I laughed. “Where, exactly?”

“On my boat.”

I gasped. “You have a boat now?”

He nodded. “I sure do.”

After Gannon parked and grabbed a large basket from the backseat, he reached for my hand and we started toward the docks. I was giddy with excitement to see what type of boat he’d purchased. He’d always dreamed of owning his own, and I was so happy for him.

“How exciting. How long have you had it?” I asked.

“A few months now. I had to save up some for the one I wanted.”

I smirked. “So that’s why you were working all the extra hours. To buy a boat, not a ring.”

Gannon shook his head. “Damn gossip column. No, I was working so much so I could transition from deputy pilot to full bar pilot, which I’m happy to say I finally did.”

I stopped abruptly and faced him. “Gannon! This is amazing news! Congratulations! I’m so proud of you.” Before I could stop myself, I hugged him.

Of course, Gannon wasn’t going to end things with a hug. He immediately captured my mouth with his, giving me a kiss that had my toes curling.

How I’d missed Gannon’s kisses. Goodness, they turned me to mush.

“I’m glad I get to celebrate it with you,” he said as he leaned his forehead on mine. “I always missed you, but even I didn’t realize how much until I saw you again, Addie.”
