Epilogue Two
Fifteen years later
“I didn’t know I could be this happy,” Skye said, leaning back on their porch as Noah rubbed her feet.
He stared out at their garden. They hadn’t been able to have six kids or even eight. They, instead, settled for four. Two girls and two boys. Katelyn, their oldest, was sitting on the grass, reading. Seeing his daughter reminded him a lot of Skye when they were in high school before they were taken.
She’d been the girl hanging by herself, reading. He’d never appreciated her then. It was only as he got to know her that he even started to care. All of that changed the day he’d watched her come around in that cell.
They only had each other, and to this day, he’d never forget it.
She was his everything.
In the fifteen years of marriage, he couldn’t recall a time in his life he’d ever been so happy. They were together and stronger.
The giggles of their youngest, Milo and Bethany, rang out in the air.
“Did you ever imagine it could be like this?” she asked.
Watching his children, being near his wife, happy, hell yeah. “I imagined all of it. I just didn’t realize I’d be this happy. Not when my first marriage was so dreadful and I couldn’t stand the bitch.”
She chuckled. “I always hoped I’d find this happiness. After everything we’ve been through, I didn’t think I deserved it.”
He squeezed her foot a little tighter. “We deserve this and each other.”
She pulled her foot away but moved to sit between his thighs. “You have no regrets?”
Wrapping his arms around her, he rested his chin on top of her head. “None.”
“Me neither.”
“Do I make you happy, Skye?”
She tilted her head back, and the smile she gifted him with left him with no doubt that he did.
“More than anything in the world.” She pulled him down to brush his lips against hers. “I love you so much, Noah King.”
He deepened the kiss, not wanting to ever let her go. “Skye, I’ve got another question for you.”
“What?”
“What are you doing for the next fifty years?”
