“Noah?”

“Please.”

“We need to talk about last night.”

“No, we did it, you enjoyed it, that’s all that matters.”

“I think we need to talk to someone.”

He held her a little tighter. “Why?”

“It’s not normal for us to … get off to that.”

“No offence, Skye, you’re not exactly experienced when it comes to getting off.” He let her go just enough so that she could turn to look at him.

“And you are?”

“Yeah, I am.”

“Did you get off last night?”

“You know I did.”

“I’m so confused right now.”

“Does it bother you what I said?” he asked.

“Yes, no, I don’t know.” She pulled her pants and bra on. He saw her hands were shaking as she worked.

He grabbed his clothes and began to get changed into them. Once they were done, much like during their captivity, they made the bed together. To him, it was always oddly therapeutic, and it still was. Most of the time the bed never stayed made for long because of the cold room. Now, though, they both sat on top of the bed, dressed, with this void between them. He didn’t know what it was.

“Our parents are going to go so crazy.”

“I don’t know why they want to keep us apart,” he said.

“We’re worlds apart. I think they want to try and remind us both of who we were.”

“And what’s that?”

“You’re the superstar football guy, and I’m … me. The nerd. The tutor, focused on my future.”

“Do you even have a clue what you want to be after all of this?”

“I have no idea anymore.”

“Anymore? What about before?”

“Before? I wanted to go into business. I wanted to start an empire, a female-run empire.”

“That’s changed?”

“I don’t know. I think so.”

“Don’t let him destroy you.”

“I feel like I can do better elsewhere, you know? I can help others like us.”

He shrugged. “We could try, but people like Mitch are out there. You go out intent on creating a war, and they’ll come for you. We don’t even know where Mitch is.”
