"Well we wouldn’t want to piss Daddy Arden off."

When he pulled back Arden blinked at him. "What did you just call me?"

Porter chuckled as he dipped into the car. The laughter that left Foi and Cyrus and the short chuckle from Ozni eased his tension. Arden stared at the back of the car, confused as they pulled out of the garage with Foi behind the wheel. It felt good to lose themselves to a bit of laughter for a moment because whatever happened next Porter knew it was going to be bleak.

He pulled out the makeshift map that he'd created. "This is where we're going to park," he pointed out. "In the morning it's pretty empty usually. And here there's a breakdown in the wall or at least there was. At night it's heavily guarded, but during the day, not as much."

Foi glanced up in the rearview mirror. "Are you sure you want to do this? Porter, there's no going back once we're inside."

"I know," Porter whispered. "But we need to bring Jaygen home. Even if you guys can't save me, save him."

"No," Ozni growled.

"You can't ask us to leave you!" Cy added. "We can't do that. We won’t!"

Porter glared at all of them. "If any of you love me the way that I love you, then you'll do what I said. Jaygen needs to get out of there. My father isn't going to kill me. He'll hurt, torture, and abuse me, but not kill. Offing his heir isn't in his plans, especially now that Amy’s gone." Porter glanced at all of them. "So, if it comes down to me or Jaygen, you get him out." When his words were met with silence, he growled. "Do you understand me?"

After a long silence, Cyrus nodded. "Yes, we understand Porter."

Oz and Foi agreed as well, but their eyes said something different. All Porter could do was pray that they’d listen. He couldn’t go back to that placeandknow that his men were dead. He would lose his last shred of sanity.

“You said you love us,” Foi glanced back at him.

“What about it?” Porter huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. “Of course I do! If I didn’t I wouldn’t put up with any of you.”

Oz shook his head. “We love you too, Porter.”

“We do,” Foi added, his breath catching in his throat. “So don’t do anything fucking stupid.”

Porter’s heart squeezed at their words. He nodded, his throat too tight to speak after hearing them say that they loved him. Porter had known growing up that he would never be accepted or cherished, but now he was. It was why he couldn’t leave Jaygen alone, why he had to get all of them back together.

The closer they drew to his old home, the more Porter's heart started to pound. Any minute now they would be back at the place Porter had managed to escape. Once upon a time he had fantasized about never stepping foot onto his father's property again, but there was no way to get out of it. Go home or leave Jaygen to his fate, those were his options.

Porter couldn’t let the man he loved die.

Crack. The sound of Jaygen's wrist being broken for the tenth time echoed around the room. He'd fought hard, but the moment four other shifters had joined the fray, that had been it. But it didn't matter as long as Foi, Ozni, Cyrus, and Amy got away, then he'd done what he had to.

Pain laced up his arm, but it was familiar pain. The kind he'd known his entire life, and Jaygen found himself slipping into the old memories after only a few hours of torture. He counted the seconds to keep his mind sharp, a tool he'd learned at the ripe age of ten.

They couldn't get to you if your mind is preoccupied, not his father or his brothers. But he wasn't back home, and he wasn't that ten-year-old boy anymore. Jaygen had escaped that life, but the lessons that had been literally carved into his flesh over twenty-one years were impossible to forget.

"Michele, don't mess him up too much, he's a prize," Gabriel said. He lurked in the shadows as if he was the boogeyman.

Jaygen scoffed at the thought. Gabriel was only human, a despicable one, but a human nonetheless.

"Of course boss, but he heals fast. I'm sure we can get him cleaned up."

Jaygen blew out an easy breath. He started all over with his count from one.One hundred and eight thousand. Another three hours had passed. It was a total of twelve hours since they brought him down and the torture began.

"He hasn't screamed either. He's something special." The human sounded so gleeful it made Jaygen want to rip his throat out. But instead, he just stared at him passively. This was nothing. A few broken bones and cuts into his flesh were mere child's play. Nothing he couldn't handle.

"I'm almost tempted to keep him, but true-born alphas are hard to come by apparently. His starting bid is already at one point two million."

Michele whistled. "Damn and it helps that he has a pretty face."

"In the end I guess that bitch of son of mine was useful for something."

Jaygen swallowed back the growl just barely; if he let on anything bothered him, they'd only continue.
