Sadness. I froze. There was something familiar…

It hit me with the force of a tsunami. Kye. The emotions belonged to him, and I was feeling them because he was my soulmate. He had to be near for me to be sensing his emotions. I hadn’t been able to feel them when I was in the depths. Something was very wrong. He needed me.

I grappled to control the Siren who wasn’t finished playing with her meal. She had been careful not to take too much blood right away, not wanting to let him slip immediately into unconsciousness. Unfortunately, that was biting us in the dorsal fin now. I needed to get to Kye, and deal with whatever had put him in danger. He left me, but he was still my mate, and I would always honor our bond.

I sank my fangs into the man one last time and delivered a dose of venom that would have paralyzed a whale. My unique toxin worked fast, and his limbs immediately seized. His face contorted in horrific pain, the toxin freezing the expression on his face like a tribal mask. I released my hold, and he sank toward the ocean floor several feet below. He could see his boat but wouldn’t be able to reach it. The Siren despised knowing that he would die in less than a minute, escaping the punishment she had planned for him, but I resisted the urge to go back for more. Twisting around, I shot through the water, following Kye’s emotions like a shark seeking blood.

My warrior’s mind blocked out the pain in my side and allowed me to focus on what had to be done.

My Atlantean heart pushed me forward, well past my limits, prepared to give everything to save my soulmate.

My Siren’s body shifted and changed, eager to destroy anything that dared to threaten what belonged to me.

I’m coming, Kye.

And I was bringing death with me.
