I had always tried to keep people at a distance, receiving as minimal an amount of physical contact as possible. Now I found myself dreaming of going to sleep and waking up surrounded by these men. I promised myself that I would find a way to make it happen.

Then, the delicious petting from my men reminded me of something I had forgotten.

“Storm! Are you okay?” I grabbed his face between my hands. He tried to pull away, but I used the tiny, microscopic cups on my palms to suction to his face. That made him freeze.

“Zosime, what have you done?” His voice was cautious, not angry, or fearful.

“I just wanted to see if you were okay, and you tried to pull away,” I replied. “Now you can’t get away from me until I am satisfied that you are okay.”

I ignored the snickers of the other guys.

“We didn’t finish bonding yesterday,” I continued. “I thought I had to bite for my venom to work, but apparently the toxin can go through blood as well. You exhibited all the symptoms, as well as an added punch from ingesting my blood. How are you not sick? With the others, they seemed to get worse the longer we waited to––” I paused, suddenly shy and hating the feeling.

Fynn took pity on me. “We will need to conduct some tests,”––his cheeks blazed red but he continued with a straight face––“but it does seem that once you inject the venom into us, your mates, we need to fully copulate for the symptoms to reverse. I’m not sure why that is, or what part of the process is working as an anti-venom. Is it the act itself? Maybe your venom is designed to ensure the species survival. Or maybe it is a chemical reaction you release that counteracts the venom? I’m still guessing here, but Storm most likely didn’t continue to experience the effects of the venom because he also had your blood in his system. You aren’t affected by your venom, so maybe the answer is in your blood. None of us have taken blood from you, so until we test some of these theories, we won’t have more conclusive answers.”

“Heck yeah!” Kye cried. “Sign me up for all these trials! I know it will be tough, but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make.” Kye’s twinkling eyes caught my gaze for a split second before Eason put him in a chokehold and dragged him from the room. Storm trailed after the scuffling pair, calling to me over his shoulder.

“Zosime, I haven’t forgotten that you didn’t claim me yet. When we are out to sea and away from this mess, you will be mine. Rest up, my love.”

I shivered in delight.

Mine.
