The Ancients enjoyed spending time on earth, working with the humans and teaching them. They weren’t our pets; they were treated as younger siblings or children. Their joy in learning new things was exciting to us. Atlantis had been our gateway to the world, and the Atlanteans our ambassadors. We were able to give them knowledge to help all mankind. The rebel Ancients focused their efforts on destroying Atlantis, the jewel of earth, their obsession with being treated like gods turning their hearts to stone.
Today they had found a way to use the Lure to destroy more than just the earth. The Ancients’ world was on fire. If we attacked the corrupted Ancients directly, we would break our oaths. A war had started, and if we didn’t find the loopholes to allow us to fight it, it wouldn’t just be Ancients that ceased to exist.
Humans were finding the Orpati, and that was stoking the fire of evil that was rippling around the world. The mining was wreaking havoc in the sea, even now tremors shook the earth. The ocean was agitated, and it was only a matter of time before it unleashed its rage on the earth. A perfect storm was brewing.
Gathering her in my arms, I blinked us out of existence. My skin prickled as we materialized on the earth plane again. I laid her gently on a bed stacked in silk cushions and hand stitched blankets. With a snap of my finger, four very confused men blinked into the room around us.
All five pairs of eyes slowly took in the room. Zosime’s eyes glowed faintly with recognition. This was her palace bedroom. Piles of colorful cushions were spread around the room, and flickering candles cast a soft yellow light onto the smooth sculpted walls. Tapestries from dynasties long gone hung on the walls; memories of many incredible places she had traveled. A large wood shelf with intricate carvings stood in the corner; it was still full of hundreds of scrolls she had collected. Each scroll was filled with forgotten histories, hand painted maps, and stories of true heroes. I had watched her men since she had awakened. They were all intelligent men who loved to learn, those scrolls were going to blow their minds.
I had carefully constructed a bubble over this part of the palace and filled it with air for her men. The palace bedroom that had once looked out over soft green hills and sun-kissed gardens, now looked out over a dark expanse of the ocean. It was a surreal view, and I found I loved it. It reminded me of the contrasts of my Zosime. My Soyale.
I smiled as Sheba slid past the window.I had sent her to Zosime. My intention was to provide her some companionship by giving her a pet. What I hadn’t counted on was the sassy and stubborn attitude the shark possessed. Controlling her had been impossible.
What I had given to the predator was an understanding of humans, and of Zosime’s struggles. To my shock, Sheba had chosen to find Zosime and stay by her side, all of her own free will. Which was a relief since I had met very few creatures able to resist the will of an Ancient, and the female great white had made the list.
Kye, Eason, Fynn and Storm stared in bewilderment, not understanding what their eyes were seeing.
“Is this a 3D movie?” Kye stage whispered in Storm’s direction.
“I assure you it is quite real.” Everyone focused their attention on me. I couldn’t deny I loved this surprise. The life of an Ancient was boring, I was ready for some fun! Joy stirred inside me, and I felt like I was that young man with the sparkling eyes and mischievous spirit Zosime had fallen in love with.
Their questions came in unison.
“Who are you?”
“Where are we?”
“My name would be challenging for humans to pronounce.” Ancient names were made up of sounds that didn’t even exist on the earth plane. “Just call me Lokene. And let me be the first to welcome you to Atlantis!” Bending I gave a flourishing bow. “Now, we really do need to discuss how the bond works, because you men are making a mess of it. Zosime cannot be away from her mates for more than a day or two. She will get sicker with each passing hour, and eventually her body will give out. Which is what would have happened exactly six hours, eight minutes, and twenty-three seconds from now, had intervention not taken place. Thankfully there is time to rectify the situation, so chop-chop.”
My words were spoken lightly, and they probably assumed I was teasing them. But I knew more about bonding than anyone in the room, and the situation was dire. She was still hiding how close her body was to giving up. I wasn’t about to let that happen, not when she had four bonded mates in the room to set things right.
They better hop up on that bed and show her some love or things were going to get real kinky. I had watched some crazy stuff from the Ancients’ world. Humans were innovative, and ropes were considered fun now. That would make things much easier. I would happily string them up for her if needed. I wondered if she would like that. Maybe as a birthday present?
They continued to stare at me. Seriously, a naked woman lays on a bed and they want to look at me? Raising my eyebrows in warning, I made a shooing motion toward the bed.
Finally, they tore their eyes from me looked to where the love of my life lay curled in the middle of the massive bed. Reaching out, I felt for her emotions, needing to know she was okay with what was about to happen. She was overflowing with happiness and love. Her emotions fully returned, but her body grew sicker by the minute.
“Lokene, join us. It is time to finish what our hearts started so long ago. You are meant to be mine, and I am yours.”
Her words floated into my mind. The world may be burning around us, but for this one night, my life was perfect. I was going to enjoy every second and do everything in my power to ensure everyone else did too…. And I had a lot of power. I smirked.
This was going to be too much fun.
“She has legs!”Kye cried.
I chuckled in amusement at the stunned faces around me. Zosime was sliding her hands along her legs as though this was the first time she had owned a pair.
“Indeed, she does.”
