Lokene snorted, and I shot him a look of annoyance.Quit reading my thoughts.

You know I can’t help it, no more than you can help it. Besides, I find that as your emotions return, you are becoming increasingly entertaining. Also, I’m a fan of the Siren’s way of cheering a person up.Lokene was trying to get a reaction from me, so I ignored him and focused on trying to come up with a way to please my guys.

An idea came to me. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to pull it off without Lokene’s help. I narrowed my gaze on him, unsure if I want to ask for a favor.

You’re my mate, that means it isn’t a favor, he answered my unspoken question.

I’m not your mate yet, because you keep dragging your feet,I replied before thinking better of it.

I know I’m hot, but are you that impatient to get me in bed?

I rolled my eyes and turned to gaze out the window. The sun was setting, casting beautiful gold and pink hues across sky blue water.

Yes, Soyale. I will help you cook for your men. I’ve missed the food of Atlantis and would enjoy doing this with you.His voice was sincere this time, not a hint of a teasing tone.

I grinned like an idiot, pleased I was going to do something nice for my mates. I quickly flipped through memories of the dishes my mother used to cook. Once I had decided, I sent out a mental list of the ingredients that I needed.

I would make a dish called ‘teganites.’ They were like pancakes and were made with olive oil, honey, milk, and flour. They were delicious when topped with cheese or honey.

Mm. Now you’ve made me hungry.Lokene casually waved toward the cabinets and then winked at me.It’s all there. Your wish is my command, Soyale.

I prepared to stand up but blushed. I knew my men had seen all there was to see of my naked body, but the idea of parading around cooking for them with no clothes on was embarrassing… Or at least it was to me. The Siren thought it was a terrific idea.

If I was going to cook the food of my previous life, why not wear one of my favorite garments?

Lokene?I asked hesitantly through the mind link.

It’s already in the bathroom, waiting for you to change. He strode toward me, rubbing his hands together until a fluffy white towel appeared in his hands.

“Here we go!” This time when he smiled at me, the smile was tender. Sincerity shone in his eyes instead of his usual mischievous twinkle.

I returned his smile with one of my own, and, holding Fynn’s hand for balance, I stood. Lokene wrapped the towel around me, and I was surprised to find that it was warm, as though it had been heated.

“Only the best for my queen!”

After wrapping me up tightly in the towel, Lokene pulled me into his arms for a quick embrace. He kissed my cheek and then stepped back. Slapping me on my butt, he added, “Hurry back, Zosi. I find I am suddenly starving!”

Once in the bathroom, I took a quick shower, rinsing the salty water from my hair and skin. Lokene had left me bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Squeezing far too much at my hand, I was surprised to find it smelled familiar.

Frankincense, cinnamon, myrrh, with other spices combined to create the unique scent of a perfume I had worn daily when not heading out to battle. My mother had created the spicy and sweet scent just for me, saying every princess should have a royal scent.

How had Lokene remembered such an insignificant detail? We had been together only once, yet the scent of the shampoo was nearly identical to the perfume my mother had crafted for me. I could feel tears burning at the back of my eyes, both from the sudden longing to see my mother once more and from the realization of how much that one day with me had affected Lokene.

I finished my shower quickly and dried. I looked dejectedly at my soaking wet hair, knowing it would be hours before it dried. I thought about the way my hair used to fall in satin waves when I unraveled my long braid.

I wondered if my magik could style hair. Closing my eyes, I reached for the magik inside me. I called for it, hoping it would understand what I was asking. I felt the warm prickle spread across my skin, up my neck, and to my scalp. As quickly as it had come, it vanished.

I stood for a moment, afraid to open my eyes for fear that instead of soft waves, I would look as though I’d been struck by lightning. Finally, I managed enough courage to crack open one eye, peering at myself in the small mirror. My ink-colored hair was completely dry and glossy. I hadn’t seen it look this beautiful since I had awakened. Gentle waves started on the top of my head and fell nearly to my butt.

Opening both eyes, I studied my reflection before focusing on my clothing. My aquamarine pants were made of soft silk, puffy and trimmed with brightly colored gold and purple fabrics. There was a long slit that ran from my ankle to my hip on either side and when I moved, flashes of my pale legs could be seen.

The top was similar to what human women called a ‘bra,’ except mine had straps that were larger pieces of fabric that draped over my shoulders like small puffy sleeves. My top was made from the same aquamarine material and was trimmed in gold and purple to match the pants. Gold chains draped elegantly from the top, which stopped just above my belly button.

I gave a happy little wiggle, breathing in deeply when the lingering scent of the spicy shampoo tickled my nose.

I smelled like me.

I looked like me.
