Thinking he’s referring to the break with Hannah and god forbid Harvey, he says sadly, “Home, away with your sister, in fact, anywhere but by my side.”
I shift back and stare into his troubled eyes, and my heart lurches. “But how, you said yourself you can’t offer me anything outside this? That I wouldn’t be safe with you and become a target, what’s changed?”
Suddenly, the car comes to a swift stop and I fall against him and he sighs. “We’ll talk about it later. Let’s get cleaned up and deal with this shit show then we’ll talk—really talk.”
Dropping a soft kiss on my lips, he smiles. “Come on, did anyone tell you, you stink like a whore’s bed?”
Rolling my eyes, I shift back and reach for a bunch of tissues from a box nearby and hand him a few, whispering, “I smell of you and it’s the sweetest smell in the world.”
This time I drop a light kiss on his lips and sigh with pleasure. I already know I can’t deny him a thing, and if I’m going anywhere, it’s with him by my side.
