She just shakes her head and pointedly ignores me.

I watch as she eyes up the food and know her stomach must be desperate to get started, so I say quickly, “Anyway, we may as well eat and you can tell me more about how you came to work for me.”

She almost falls on the food and as I watch her eat, a thousand images of what I’d prefer her to do with that sexy mouth entertains me.

Maisy has excelled herself and the basic meal of meat, potatoes, and green veg melts in the mouth and the fine wine that accompanies it makes me relax a little as I watch my guest like a tiger stalking its prey.

The lamplight illuminates her flushed face as she devours the meal with a hunger that’s not unexpected but a delight to watch. She obviously appreciates good food, despite the fact she’s hungry and would probably eat a rabid rat right now.

She drinks the entire jug of water in no time at all and I feel ashamed at how I’ve treated her so far. It’s not me, the heartless brute who doesn’t consider a woman’s feelings. I prefer a softer approach, where she would most likely end up in my bed.

Feeling glad I changed direction, I say with interest, “So, Holly Bryant, would be journalist and guardian of information, tell me about yourself.”

“What do you want to know, apart from my informant’s name of course?”

Now she’s eaten, she’s relaxed a little and her soft laugh takes me by surprise. It completely lights up her face and the red glow to her cheeks enhances her beauty and, quite honestly, takes my breath away.

“Well, I’d like to know what made you apply for a position in my company.”

“What’s this an interview? I already had one of those and guess what, I got the job.”

She raises her glass of water to me in a mock salute, and I shake my head. “Typical journalist, can’t answer a fucking question to save your life.”

She looks at me and a broad smile breaks out across her face and she laughs. It surprises me a little as it totally transforms her. The sullen, guarded woman has changed into one who is vibrant, exciting and full of fun and it takes all my strength not to openly stare.

“Well, Mr. Prince, for your information, I have wanted to work for you since I graduated High School. Reporting fascinates me and the more I studied it, the more I wanted it. So, I set my goals and only wanted the best.”

“I take it that meant me.” I laugh to blur the cocky statement, and she grins. “Of course, why settle for less than the best. I owe it to myself to strive for perfection, although the rag you call the Globe is far from that, but we’ve all got to start somewhere.”

“What’s wrong with it?”

“What’s right with it. Gutter journalism chasing sensationalism.”

“You’re wrong, Holly, it’s a publication that highlights the failings of the human who gets it wrong most of the time. Greed, desire and ambition overshadow what is right. It’s the ten commandments on speed because there is nothing more interesting than watching people in the public eye getting it wrong on every level. It makes the rest of us feel good about our own choices in life and makes us pity those who outwardly appear to have done well for themselves. Sensationalism sells and we reap the rewards of that, so before you dismiss my business so cruelly, know the facts first and learn from them.”

She stares at me in surprise and, for the first time, she looks at me a little differently. There’s an expression of admiration on her face that strokes my already inflated ego and a reverence that I wouldn’t mind seeing on her face as she kneels before me naked and ready to suck my cock.

It appears the game has changed and now the players are in place, it’s time to begin.
