“Lunch.” He smirks as he reaches out and takes my hand, pulling me up and away from my work.

Just feeling his hand in mine is like an electric shock and as those deep, dark eyes bore into mine, a shiver passes through me as his aftershave wafts around my soul.

“Come, Maisy makes amazing club sandwiches. You must be hungry.”

“I suppose I am.” I laugh softly because the past few hours could have been minutes as far as I’m concerned, and I suddenly realize I’m hungry and desperate for a drink.

Dexter seems quite mellow for once and as we walk toward the kitchen, I decide to capitalize on that and say slightly nervously, “Have you located my stepbrother?”

“Not yet.”

He carries on and I say lightly, “I could help.”

“No, you can’t.”

“But why, surely, I’m your best chance at finding him? I mean, if he’s in danger, I want you to find him and keep him safe.”

“Why?”

“What do you mean, why? He’s family.”

Dexter stops suddenly and I’m surprised when his eyes flash and he snarls, “Family who sacrifices their sister for personal gain. He didn’t have your best interests at heart, Holly. He was using you and so you don’t need to feel guilty about giving us his name.”

“What do you mean?” I’m fearful of his answer and he snarls, “Colton is working for somebody we need to find. There is no possible way he could have discovered that information without being fed it by an unknown source. He is just a puppet, and so are you. Whoever is doing this is dangerous, and it’s imperative we discover his identity before it’s too late.”

His words silence me because suddenly I’m aware that I’m way out of my depth and from the look on his face, it could ruin us both.
