“Junior champion at Clover-falls academy. Boarding school had its advantages.”

Jason grins and tosses me a hat and as I pull it down on my head, I catch Dexter looking at me with a very strange expression that sends a tingle down my spine. There’s a deep yearning in the stare that vanishes almost as soon as it appeared and if I had blinked at the wrong moment, I would have missed it.

He swings onto his own horse and Jason says, “I’ll set up your picnic at the creek. Then some of us have work to do.”

He laughs as Dexter grins. “Some of us have to keep the world spinning, thanks man.”

As Jason heads off in a cloud of dust, Summer seems impatient to get off and I know the feeling because looking at Dexter Prince sitting on top of a pure black stallion is a sight I will never forget.

“You ready, baby, I’ll go slow if you need me to?”

Gritting my teeth, I pull on Summer’s reins and say icily, “Don’t you dare.”

Laughing, he heads off and if what happened to me was worth anything, it’s this moment. It all comes together in the most exhilarating way as I follow Dexter across fields that settle inside a landscape of outstanding natural beauty. The sun is hot, but the breeze is fine and as we gallop over the dusty ground, I have never felt so alive.
