Dexter

Strangely, I watch the car disappear from view with an interest that surprises me.

Sir.

The word won’t leave me as I roll it around my mind and savor the feeling it gives me. Just the sound of it falling from her lips made me hard and my first look at the woman herself caught my interest despite the anger I’m feeling toward her right now.

Long dark hair that looks as wild as the look in her eyes as she suffered the ultimate humiliation. The way she walked toward me on those impossibly high heels almost made me smile as I sense her need to wear them due to the fact she’s shorter than average.

My attention was immediately grabbed by the biggest tits I’ve ever seen dancing before my eyes like every man’s dream. Yes, Holly Bryant was a nice surprise for my eyes, but a kick in the balls for my ego.

She’s dangerous. I must remember that because she has cast doubt on my loyalty and almost got me killed. I’m angry, vengeful and liable to do her some serious damage the way I’m feeling now and so, for her own safety, I removed her from my side almost immediately.

Sir. Interesting how that made me feel. Maybe I should re-think this whole situation because it could make what’s about to happen all the more enjoyable—for me.

I head back to my office and wonder what’s she’s thinking now. No doubt confused, fearful, and probably angry. She looked feisty, a woman who takes no shit and I like those qualities in a woman. Maybe I will enjoy tearing the truth from her because Holly Bryant may have been fired from Media Corp, but she’s about to discover she hasn’t got away lightly. Her nightmare is only just beginning and as I have no feeling inside me whatsoever, it’s a bumpy road ahead—for her.

The phone rings and Helen says breathlessly, “Mr. King is calling.”

“Put him through.”

I settle back in my chair as Ryder says abruptly, “Is it done?”

“Yes. The woman herself is currently traveling to my ranch where she will be kept for questioning.”

“I see.”There’s a brief silence and then he says abruptly, “Remember, we don’t have long. Find out what she knows and send it through because we need all the time we’ve got. I could interrogate her myself; it may help speed up the process.”

“I’m sure it would.” I laugh softly.

“However, I’m more than interested to discover how she bypassed my system and submitted that article to the press without my authorization. No, leave it with me and if I fail, I’ll call and hand the baton to you.”

Ryder sounds almost hopeful. “Then move fast, Dexter because I’m an impatient man and don’t forget…”

He pauses and I swear my heart rate increases.

“We’re counting on you.”

He cuts the call and as I replace the receiver, I feel a real fear. Not just from him, but for the situation we find ourselves in. Five Kings all with a role to play in keeping society moving in the right direction. Every single one of us bar one has been tested, challenged and threatened and we are not in the clear yet. Someone wants to bring us down, and it’s becoming increasingly obvious they will succeed because if Ryder’s right and this thing comes to a head in two weeks, the sands of time are about to explode and cover the world in shit.

Somehow, I manage to get through the day and set in place my absence from the office. Meetings are arranged, instructions given and jobs allocated, freeing me from my daily business to concentrate on a far more important one. Saving the Five Kings. Saving me.

7 pm and Helen has left already because I sent her home with instructions to keep me updated. All my staff need to know is that I’m taking a vacation and may be away for three weeks to a month. I will work from home and expect updates in the usual way.

Physically, I will be removed from my business, but mentally I am still running things, which says a lot for modern technology because I intend on playing with my prey for as long as it takes.

Making my way to the rooftop of the building I rule with a rod of iron, I see the chopper waiting. David, my pilot, nods as I approach and my bodyguard holds open the door. “Thanks, Sam.”

I nod as he says respectfully, “Evening, Dexter, everything has been arranged as per your instructions.”

“Good.”

As I settle in my seat and reach for my phone, I feel a sense of satisfaction that one area of my life appears to be running smoothly at least. Yes, it’s the part that’s out of control that needs addressing, and Holly Bryant holds the key to that information.

The chopper takes off with my pilot and bodyguard sitting in the front and I turn my attention to business as we fly toward my ranch set in the middle of nowhere, where nobody will hear her screams.
