Dexter

We circle the ranch and I feel the excitement intensify. I’m home.

I love my ranch. I come here so rarely I still feel the thrill when we touch down on the landing pad and my ranch hand meets me in the jeep.

Jason is waiting with a smile on his leather-tanned face and his bright blue eyes twinkle under his cowboy hat as he says respectfully, “Good to see you, Dexter.”

“You too, Jason, everything good?”

“Sure is, as always. Nothing to report except Jolene’s expecting to calf in the early hours, so I’m in for an all-nighter.”

“Need a hand?”

“Only if you insist.” He grins and I smile with a happiness I only appear to feel here. Out here, there are no responsibilities. I have total freedom to live a basic life with no deadlines, no meetings and just nature to calm my spirit. I wonder what Jason thinks of my visitor and say with interest, “And my visitor?”

“Safely in her room.”

He looks as if he has a thousand questions, but wisely keeps them to himself as he smiles. “Maisy’s got your food ready. You must be hungry.”

“Can’t wait.”

I step into the jeep beside him and Sam jumps in the back and we set off over the rough ground toward the main house.

Maisy and Jason look after my ranch in return for bed, board and a home. I don’t count them as employees though, more like friends, possibly even family because aside from Helen and anyone who I meet through business, they are the only people I talk to other than Sam.

I have distanced myself from society, including my family, because of the biggest mistake of my life and the only visitors I ever entertain are the whores back at my penthouse in the city. Not here, though. I bring nobody here - until her.

Maisy beams as I walk through the door. “Good to see you, Dexter. I made your favorite, beef ribs and fries.”

I can smell the mouth-watering dish waiting for me and instantly relax. “You’re an angel.”

She laughs softly and hands me a beer that’s so cold it instantly freezes my fingers.

“So, Jason tells me you’re staying a while, and your visitor?”

She looks curious, and I shrug. “Business, Maisy, unpleasant business that hopefully won’t take long.”

“I see.” I can tell she disapproves from the tightness to her jaw and who can blame her. Imprisoning a young girl in the cow barn isn’t really that hospitable, and I know they will be uncomfortable with that. They trust me though, which is a good thing because I barely trust myself these days. There’s an anger inside me that is gaining momentum instead of dulling with time. My release from it is being an irritable bastard and boxing, but I am fast realizing that I’m only able to control it through dominant sex. Whores are good at playing the submissive, but it’s not enough.

Once again, my thoughts turn to Holly and I feel something stirring inside me that hasn’t been there for some time. Can I do this? Can I use her to drive away my demons?

Sir. One word that sealed her fate along with that brave set to her jaw as she walked toward me, looking like every fucking depraved thought in my mind. I could ruin that girl and not even break a sweat and extract the information I need in the cruelest of ways. The idea just won’t go away and fills me with an excitement I haven’t had for some time.

The ball is now firmly in her court because she will only get out of this mess if she gives me what I want. Information and how I get that information will be all the better for me if she takes her time. Yes, two weeks will be more than enough to ruin Holly Bryant and purge my demons a little more.

Thinking of her cold and shivering in the cow barn makes me hard already. I need to break this woman and find out what she knows and like every general, it will be done on the back of hard decisions and no mercy.

So, I eat my food, relish the fact I’m home and then watch the game in my living room with a cold beer to keep me company. Then I take a long, cold shower and run through just what I’m going to do to Holly Bryant when I get my hands on her.

* * *

I’mup early and the sound of the rooster’s call makes me smile. There is no sound other than nature and the gentle breeze that wafts through the open window. The large comfortable bed wraps me in comfort, and I feel the stress fall away as I contemplate the day ahead.

Dressing in black jeans and a tight tee, I head down to breakfast and my mouth waters when I smell the freshly cooked pancakes and bacon sizzling on the skillet. Maisy and Jason are already in the large kitchen and Sam is watching the morning news bulletin as I pull up a chair and reach for the coffee.

“Anything of interest?”

I cock a brow toward the television and he smiles. “Nothing out of the ordinary. Just as we planned.”
