Mine. Finally. It couldn’t have gone better and I congratulate myself on a well-executed plan.

As I look at the frightened woman staring at me in horror, I feel the power rush through my body and scramble my mind. I did it. Prevented my brother from claiming what’s mine because I’m in doubt that was his intention.

He was a fool because from the moment she was born Cassiopeia Annalise Brookes-Stanley was promised to me.

I’ve watched her grow from a slightly awkward child into a beautiful, desirable woman. The best Andromeda has to offer, if not the world, because a finer woman would be hard to find.

Long golden hair with highlights of brown, hangs in waves down her back and touches the top of her ass. Sparkling aquamarine eyes that could haunt a man’s dreams in the afterlife, gaze with fear and an excitement she must be hating right now. Her perfect mouth that tasted so good shines like the most exquisite ruby and the white porcelain skin that is flushed with a pink glow makes her look like an angel.

I allow my eyes to travel the length of her, like a man sizing up the prize stallion he has just acquired at auction. The heaving chest that tapers down to a slim waist tells me she looks after a body that would be the ruin of any man. Yes, as plans go, this one has worked out extremely well and I’m impatient to see what else lies under that silk dress because I’m guessing it’s every wet dream I ever had. My wife, my queen, and who wouldn’t be ecstatic about that?

“Please, let me go.”

Her soft voice wafts toward me on the wings of an angel and I look at the defiance in her eyes as they flash with anger.

“No.”

Turning, I dismiss her request and reach for the bottle of champagne I arranged to be cooling in the ice bucket, before pouring us a glass each and offering her one.

“I don’t want your alcohol; I want my freedom.”

Her voice cuts harshly through the air and I shake my head. “Request denied. You see, Cassie, your destiny was always to end up here in this room. With me. Now sit and we will discuss this situation like adults and at the end of it I’m sure you will see things from a different perspective.”

Setting the glass down on the table, I pull out her chair and she has no choice but to do as I say.

As I push the chair in, I lean down and whisper, “You may even discover you like it.”

As my breath wafts against her neck, she shivers and grips the stem of the glass with shaking fingers, and I’m guessing under that dress and between her legs is a different kind of reaction that she’s struggling to disguise.

I know she was turned on when I kissed her, just from the wild look on her face and the spark in her eye. She kissed me back and made no attempt to push me away. I liked that–a lot and I’m keen to move the formalities on so I can explore this woman further.

As I take my own seat at the opposite end of the table, there is silence in the room. Downstairs the ball is progressing as it was always meant to, save for three people who have been removed for their own protection. Their fate now lies in the hands of this woman and I know I’ve won before I even say a word because Cassie’s loyalty is well known and I’m counting on it not to let me down.

I raise my glass to her and say with a great deal of satisfaction. “You must be wondering what happens next.”

She says nothing and just regards me coolly and I smile. “The Graduation Ball is just a name for something we all knew would change lives by the time the clock struck twelve. Many paths have been altered this evening, and I just accelerated ours.”

“But why me, you could have unmasked any other woman there. Why choose someone you don’t know, someone unwilling, it doesn’t make sense?”

“It was always you.”

“But why?”

She looks genuinely confused, and I sigh and lean back.

“You have been a constant visitor to the palace; a memory that grew up with me. Victor’s friend and a girl who grew into an amazing woman. I’ve watched you develop over the years and know you will make the perfect queen. Why would I want anyone else? You know Andromeda, how our life operates and are educated and know your own mind. Then there’s Victor.”

“What about him?” She looks surprised and as I think about my brother, my heart hardens as I hiss, “I’m saving you from him.”

The wide eyes that look at me with surprise tell me he has kept that side of him well-hidden, which doesn’t surprise me.

“Why would you save me from Victor? He’s my friend.”

“Because it’s all an act designed to make you his.”

She just shakes her head and laughs as if she’s facing a madman.
