Epilogue.

5months later.

Monique.

I was going to die. I just knew it. I was going to die!

I gripped the two hands I held tightly and screamed out against the pain that had taken hold of my body. “Arghhh!!!”

“You’re doing amazing sweetheart,” Michael said from his place beside me.

“Keep pushing.” The midwife, Carrie, said from her place between my thighs. “I can see the head.”

Oh god. Almost there. Almost there.

When the next contraction hit, I bore down, grateful to finally be able to use the pain and push against it.

“Perfect.” Carrie called. “You’re doing so well, Monique.”

It didn’t feel like I was doing well. It felt like my body was going to split into two.

“Just one more gentle push and your baby will be here.”

I nodded and gripped Michael and Xander’s hand super tight. And when the next wave came, I pushed, hard.

The baby shifted, and slithered, and then there was only relief.

I fell back against the pillows, releasing the men’s hands and covering my face. “Oh my god.”

I was still deep inside my body and it took me a long moment to be able to focus on what was going on around me.

They placed a heavy, wet, warm bundle on my chest and I instinctively grabbed for my baby, who was squirming and mewling like a kitten.

“Oh my god. You’re here.” I said, staring down at the most beautiful face I’d ever seen.

“A healthy baby girl.” Carrie announced.

Xander collapsed into the chair next to me, and his face was wet with tears.

Kyle kissed my forehead. “She’s perfect sweetheart.”

I glanced up at him. “Go tell everyone.” He nodded, and took off out of the room.

I’d decided to have a home birth, in our new, huge home. Half the pack was waiting outside to hear the news.

“She’s so beautiful.” Michael whispered, kissing her little face.

I laughed. “She’s all squashed.”

He chuckled. “She’s perfect.”

A loud roar of celebration went up outside our house and I grinned. “Looks like the words out.”

Xander stared at Carrie. “You sure Monique’s okay? She’s not bleeding.. or...”
