“What do we need to do?” she asked, feeling a little nervous. She may not have ever lived in Hawaii, but she’d grown up hearing stories from her father. While it was rare for a big one to hit, when they did, it could be very serious.

Plus, as a New Zealander, they were surrounded by Pacific Islands who regularly got hit by mother nature. She was well aware of its destructive abilities.

“It would be best if you returned to your room and packed up your belongings. Put them in the bathroom,” he said. “If we think it’s necessary, you may be instructed to move to the hallways for the night.”

“To sleep?” she asked, her eyes wide.

The man nodded.

Suddenly, a shiver ran down her spine, setting her senses on fire.

“I’ll take Ms. Kane from here. Thank you, Kanoa,” Daniel said, and the man smiled and left. Daniel picked up the ABC bags and gave her a penetrating glance. “Are you all right?”

Harper glanced down at her bedraggled look. Her wet hair was plastered to the side of her face and if she hadn’t been wearing a navy bikini under her sundress, things would have been quite embarrassing.

She pushed her wet hair off her face and could tell by his slight grin it had only made things worse.

“I’m, yes, I’m okay, thank you,” she said, then reached for the bags. “I can take those.”

Daniel ignored her and began walking away. Harper picked the other bags up and hurried after him. When she reached the wall of lifts to stand next to him, he’d already pressed the button.

“I can take them,” she said, more quietly.

He glanced down at her and shook his head. “Accept some help, Harper. It won’t kill you.”

She chewed her lip and stepped inside the lift as the door opened. Daniel stepped in and sucked up all the air, making it difficult for her to breathe.

They’d been in close proximity before, but now they were on their own, and in the small space, he seemed much bigger.

Daniel pressed number thirty-five on the panel and her eyes narrowed. How did he know what floor she was staying on? He may own the hotel, but that was a little creepy.

“Not a fan of storms?” he asked, not looking at her.

“Is anyone?”

Daniel shrugged. “Sure. There are storm chasers.”

She glanced up at him. “There are?”

He nodded and his eyes moved to look at her. They were full of humor.

“Are you one of them?” she asked, curious.

The door opened, and they walked down the hallway. When they reached her room, she pulled out her card and Daniel took it from her.

Swipe.

The door beeped, and he opened the door, allowing her to enter first. She moved past him, feeling his body heat as she did, and placed the bags on the hotel room dining table.

Daniel did the same and stood looking around her room, frowning. “We should get you an upgraded suite.”

First, it wasn’t a suite—it was a standard room. BookFlix had paid for her flights and accommodations, and it was sufficient.

“This is fine,” she replied, feeling a little embarrassed. “It’s all I need.”

And all I can afford, but you wouldn’t understand that.

“So are you? A storm chaser?” She asked again.
