CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Harper bolted upright and let out a scream.

She blinked, looking around, and saw she was in her hotel suite in Hawaii.

Slowly, she got her bearings.

Wow, what the hell was that?

A nightmare.

About Daniel.

He had flown home and his plane had crashed. His private jet. She didn’t even know if he had a private jet or flew commercial. But vividly she could see the flames and his face screaming her name.

Harper was covered in sweat.

She reached over and pulled a handful of tissues out of the box and patted her face and chest. She was going to need a shower.

Suddenly, she heard banging on her door.

“Harper! Open up! Harper!”

Daniel?

She ran to the door and pulled it open.

“What’s going on?” she asked, her eyes wide at the man standing there in only a pair of boxers.

He pushed into her room, grabbing her arms, and looking over her like she was the one who had been in the plane crash.

“Are you okay?”

Harper took in his large, muscular chest and six-pack abs and nodded.

“Up here, sunshine,” he said, taking her chin. “What happened?”

She shook her head and stepped away.

“I had a nightmare. Did you hear me from all the way down the hall?”

Daniel stepped over to the ranch slider and pulled them shut. “You left these open. Sound travels at this time in the morning.”

Harper looked at the clock on the wall. It was only 3:00 a.m.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“Don’t apologize. Fuck, Harper. I was worried. You screamed like someone was trying to kill you.”

She looked down at the barely there night dress she wore and back at him.

“Don’t do that,” Daniel said, shaking his head. “I’ve seen every inch of you. I’ve touched every inch of you.”

Harper moved to the sofa and sat down, pulling a thin throw over her despite the heat. Daniel frowned and sat down in a chair opposite her.

“You want to tell me what the dream was about?”

“Not really,” she said.
