It was unusual, if not unheard of, for him to have an employee at his house. However, these were unusual circumstances, and he trusted Fletch had good reason for bringing their PR Manager with them tonight.

“I hope you’re not here to press for a media statement, because unless you are about to blow my goddamn mind with some groundbreaking news, I’m not doing it,” Daniel said.

Olivia sat beside Fletcher, and they shared a glance.

“What we’re about to show you is a game changer. You’re not going to like it,” Fletcher said, pulling out a folder.

“Have you eaten?” Hunter asked, narrowing his eyes at him.

Daniel turned and stared out at the lights of Manhattan. He thought coming home would make him feel different, but it didn’t. He simply felt far away from what was important.

His eyes drifted back to his brothers.

Get your ass back in the game, Dufort. These two matter. The business matters. Harper has moved on and will never forgive you this time.

He’d lost his chance. He should have stayed and fought for her. Instead, he let her walk away.

“Dan,” Hunter repeated.

“Fuck,” he cursed. “No, I haven’t. Get whatever.”

“We’re going to fix this,” Fletcher said, opening the file and taking a sheet from Oliva. He looked at Hunter. “Order a pizza.”

“Pepperoni?” Hunter asked, swiping on his phone.

“Sure, whatever,” Daniel said. “Now fucking show me what you have.”

Fletcher moved the pile of books and candles from the coffee table and laid out some papers. Hunter finished the order and leaned in.

“Through some careful undercover investigation,” Fletcher smirked at Olivia, who blushed. Daniel glanced between them. “We’ve learned that Suzanne Wrightson is dear old dad’s longtime lover.”

Christ.

“Or at least one of them,” Hunter said, shaking his head.

“It appears he wasn’t even loyal to his fucking lovers,” Fletcher added.

Daniel leaned back on the couch, lifted his ankle onto his knee and draped an arm across the cushions. “So? This is hardly breaking news.”

Olivia wriggled forward and picked up a document. “Except we believe this is different. He paid her a bunch of cash and set her up in a nice house in Brooklyn about ten years ago.”

He took the paper from her and scanned it. “Who owns it? Or more to the point, whose name is it in?”

“She does. The title is in Suzanne’s name.”

Daniel glanced up from the paper, looking between his brothers and Olivia. “Okay, what am I missing here? Dad’s not the first wealthy man to set up an old lover with a home.”

As sickening as it was, that was a fact. He wouldn’t be surprised if Johnathan had purchased a number of homes and gifted them on to get out of a pickle or two before he’d divorced their mother.

“A former co-worker of Suzanne’s knew about the situation, and the two women have kept in touch. A few months ago, Suzanne found out about the other lovers. She believed she was the only other woman in Johnathan Dufort’s life,” Olivia said.

“Really? That seems...naïve,” Daniel said, but then shook his head. “And she’s pissed?”

Olivia and Fletcher both nodded.

“Highly,” Hunter added.

“A woman scorned, and all that,” Olivia said, shrugging.
