Why did people do it?

Tony Hardy, the sponsorship manager, dived into his proposal for Dufort Hotels to sign up to become a silver level sponsor for a global animal welfare group.

Olivia sat, pulled out her raspberry lip-gloss and absentmindedly lifted it to her mouth. Her gaze rose as she began to apply it and found Fletcher nodding at Tony before slowly turning to her. His smoldering eyes watched her slide the gloss over her lips.

Oh crap.

Moisture pooled in her panties.

How could she say no to a man as she yearned for his touch?

The ache increased as she rubbed her lips together. His green eyes lifted to hers, rich with torment.

He swallowed and looked away.

Remember your heart—he’ll break it.

“I believe Dakota Smithers is involved with this charity and I wondered if you could speak with her. See what she knows and dig around?” Tony said.

Olivia pressed her lips together.

Ugh, of course she did.

“I can do that, but I believe she is in the UK this week. Still, I think they have phones over there.” Fletcher smirked.

Everyone laughed.

Olivia didn’t.

When the meeting was over, they all stood, and Fletcher asked her to stay. He stood, closed the door and returned to stand way too close.

She knew she was overreacting, but that damn photo had wound her up.

“You’re angry. Why?” he growled.

She was, but she had no right to be.

“It’s none of my business.” She packed up her folder and slipped her tablet back inside it.

“Olivia, look at me,” he demanded, and her eyes flew to his. “You were with me when we dropped Dakota home on Friday.”

How intuitive of him.

She nodded; her lips pressed together.

“You know I’ve slept with her.” He said it as if it was no big deal.

“Of course I do, and like I said, it’s none of my business.” She lifted her folder and went to turn and leave, but Fletcher blocked her. “Please move.”

“For God’s sake, Liv. I told you I want to see you more. If that’s what you want too, let’s find a way.”

She couldn’t.

It wasn’t possible.

He knew that.

“No. No,” she said, clenching her teeth. “You know I can’t. We can’t.”
