They both froze, and Fletcher began coughing on his toast. “No.”

“No?”

“I’m out at lunch. Brunch. What do you need?” he lied, shaking his head in obvious discomfort at doing so.

“Wedding stuff,” Harper called into the phone.

Daniel added, “What she said.”

Olivia smiled and lifted her coffee to her lips.

“Can it wait until next weekend?” They both cringed this time. “Or Sunday night?”

There was a short silence.

“Sure. Didn’t realize you had plans,” Daniel said. “Send me a text on Sunday.”

Fletcher pressed a button on the phone after agreeing. He didn’t look happy.

“Why don’t you go see them? I can go home for a few hours or do a few things,” she offered.

Fletcher shook his head.

“No. It’s fine. I hate lying to my brother, but if it wasn’t for this stupid fucking policy, I wouldn’t have to.”

She didn’t disagree.

Jonathan Dufort’s behavior had been disruptive and a risk to the business, and she knew some companies had similar policies, but generally an anti-fraternization policy was a pretty old-fashioned position these days.

“He won’t throw it out now Mr. Dufort senior is no longer a majority shareholder?” she asked.

“Not after that business with the senator blackmailing him. It’s still pretty fresh.”

Olivia nodded slowly.

She’d been included in some of the details around the senator blackmailing a few months ago because of her job. She didn’t know everything, but when Daniel had returned from Hawaii, he’d quickly shut it down.

“They can wait. The wedding is months away,” he said. “Let’s get dressed. I’m taking you out.”

Her eyes shot open.

She’d thought they’d spend the weekend shacked up in his penthouse. Going out was a risk.

“Where?”

“Somewhere no one will spot us. Don’t worry.”

An hour later she was flying through the skies in a helicopter with Fletcher seated beside her, looking illegally hot in a pair of Prada jeans, a pale blue shirt, and the sexiest pair of Versace sunglasses she’d ever seen.

How dare he?

THERE WAS NO WAY FLETCHERwas going to spend the entire weekend locked away with Olivia. While two days wrapped around her body sounded blissful, he’d meant it when he said he wanted to share some of his world with her.

They landed on the helipad of his Southampton home and ran across the tarmac as the blades slowed.

“Wow,” she said, losing the battle with her red curls. “I kind of loved that.”
