“The policy maybe,” she said. “If he goes public, Daniel will find out, and I’ll be fired. Losing my job will be a good first step to taking Sammy from me. He’ll claim all kinds of things. She was home that night you came over and he’ll paint the entire thing so I look like a bad mother. They already think I’m a drug user. He’s a master manipulator.”

He groaned and wiped a hand over his face. It was unlikely it was that simple, but the guy had planted drugs on her, so it was sensible for them to be cautious. Olivia had heightened fear over the situation, but after what she’d been through, he didn’t blame her.

This is what bullies did.

Manipulated their victims.

“Daniel won’t fire you. I won’t let him,” he replied, even knowing he couldn’t guarantee it. His brother was so emotionally attached to that damn policy, it was going to be a challenge to get him to see sense.

“This is such a mess,” she said, and his heart ached for her.

“You know what Liv, fuck it. If this all blows up, you and Sammy can come and live with me.”

Her eyes bulged out of her head.

“You don’t need a job. I’ll... fuck, don’t look at me like that. I’m just saying I am not letting him take your daughter. I have resources. I know people in powerful positions.”

Olivia shook her head.

“Money doesn’t solve everything, Fletcher. I am not letting him get me fired and then becoming dependent on you because you feel responsible.”

What?

“That’s not what this is. That’s not what I’m offering.” He took in the aghast look on her face. “Look, calm down—”

Her hand came up. “You did not just say that.”

Fuck.

“Sorry. Shit. I’m not dealing with this very well. I’m used to just taking control.” He ran a hand through his hair.

If it was up to him, he’d hunt the guy down and destroy him.

“Please don’t do anything without speaking to me. I have to go back to work. I’ve got a meeting in a few minutes,” she said. “But we need to... obviously... not do this anymore.”

Totally destroying him.

He stared at her, then nodded.

They both knew the weekend they’d shared had been incredible and when they said goodbye last night, it couldn’t be the end. At least that was what how Fletcher felt about it. Now Olivia was running scared.

As she walked out the door, he realized she still hadn’t given him Simon’s surname. It was time he stepped up his game. Simon’s days of hurting Olivia were over. The question was, how would he stop the guy?

Fletcher pursed his lips, staring at the empty doorway. Then he made a decision.

He wasn’t fucking around with this.

Olivia was too important.

He walked down the hall, and into Daniel’s office, knocking once on the open door. “Hey.”

Daniel looked up from his laptop and frowned when he saw Fletcher’s expression.

“Close the door,” his brother said.
