I can. But should I?

He’s not looking at me like he just wants to have a drink. And… when I stare back at him, I can’t lie and say I’m thinking about drinking at all.

But there’s a dangerous vibe about him that the old me senses. It warns me to stay away. Except the sex appeal he oozes numbs my brain and entices me to forget my life and escape with him.

Nick leans slightly closer, and I inhale his rich masculine scent.

He smells like passion and power. Like the formidable pine trees in the forest back home. Like sandalwood and sex.

“Come on, I promise I won’t bite, unless you want me to.” He winks at me, and the butterflies in my stomach go crazy.

It’s one drink. One break. One moment of reprieve for my tired soul that truly needs the reminder of fun.

Who could resist a sinfully gorgeous man who looks like he stepped out of a dark fantasy?

So, when Nick puts out his hand, I take it.

ChapterThree

Tennessee

With his hand placed at the small of my back, Nick leads me to the VIP lounge of the club in the hotel.

The décor is breathtaking with stunning black leather sofas and glossy slate varnished floors with a marble effect.

It’s just us in here along with the bartender. When he notices us walk in, he approaches with a decanter and a bottle of expensive-looking wine with an Italian name I won’t even try to pronounce.

Nick starts speaking Italian to him, and I watch, trying to decipher what they’re talking about. Eventually, the bartender nods, sets the decanter down on the little table between the sofas, and returns the bottle of wine to the bar.

“What did you say to him?” I ask Nick when he looks at me.

“He brought us a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino.”

God, his accent.I swear I’ve never heard anything sexier in my life. “Oh, right, and that was a bad thing because?”

“Have you ever had that wine before?”

“No, I most definitely have not.” I chuckle lightly, and his gaze drops momentarily to my lips.

“Brunello di Montalcino is a strong red wine. It’s earthy and takes some getting used to. I figured you for something a little sweeter.” He looks me up and down, taking no caution to hide the fact that he’s checking me out.

Kurt was never like that, and since I’ve never been with anybody else, I’m not exactly knowledgeable on different types of men.

“What made you think that?”

He turns his smile up a notch. “Because you look like you taste sweet.”

All I can do is stare back at him and pray my pale skin isn’t giving me away and turning as red as my hair.

“Do you say that to all the women you meet in Vegas?” I try to summon that nonchalance I had going on downstairs when I was with the girls.

“No.”

I’m sure that’s not true, but it doesn’t matter. Right now, this man has me hooked, and I don’t care about anything else.

“After you.” He motions for me to sit on the larger sofa.

I do, and he sits next to me. The bartender comes back with another bottle of wine, to which Nick nods.
