“Uh oh. I feel like our plan to pig out and talk shit about a fraction of the male population is about to get canceled.”

I let out a laugh. “Yeah. I’m so sorry. Something came up and I have to run out.”

“Are you okay? You sound... off.”

Off as in severely pissed? Hell, yes, I’m feelingoff. “You know the fraction of the male population we were going to talk shit about? I have to go hurl a few of those angry words at one of their faces. Right now. It can’t wait.”

With that, I take off to the bedroom, riled up again.

“Oh. Is it Ethan?”

“No.”

“Your douchebag ex with the goatee that makes him look obnoxious rather than attractive?”

Stepping into a pair of jeans, I pause to picture Kyle and the aforementioned goatee. “You know, now that you mention it, it didn’t work for him at all. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before.”

Ashley’s snicker incites my own. Soon, we’re both giggling. Plopping down on the bed with one foot in my pants, I rub a hand over my face. My boiling rage cools.

“It isn’t my ex. I’ll tell you all about it later. I think I’m going to need a lift.” I’m going to drive the SUV Rowan loaned me to his place, but I’m definitely not leaving in it.

“Yeah, no problem. How much later?”

“I’ll call you.”

“Okay. Are you sure you’re good? Do you need me to go with you to wherever you’re going?”

I’m too stunned by the offer to answer immediately. I’m not accustomed to someone being in my corner, no questions asked. “Um... no. I’ll be fine. I’ll let you know what happens.”

“Okay. Take care, Grace. I’ll wait for your call.”

“Thanks.
