“I feel and smell like a million dollars. Thank you again, so much.”

My smile grows. “I’m glad you love it.”

Passing Rayna over to Leo, his smile, my favourite one of his, lights up his face when he takes in his daughter.

“Who’s a pretty princess tonight?” he coos.

“Elsa!” she chirps.

Digging out my phone, I say, “Let me get a quick photo of you both while she’s in a good mood.”

She’s normally pretty good about having her photo taken but when she’s not in the mood, there’s no getting her to cooperate, not even with a bribe.

He gets her to look at me and I’m about snap a picture when I notice she’s on the wrong side of him.

“Switch her to the other side. She’s covering your patch.”

“I don’t care about that.”

“Considering this night is for you becoming president, it should.”

Rolling his eyes, he moves her to his other side, and I quickly take their picture and flip the phone so he can see.

“Thanks. Send it to me.”

I shoot him the photo and pull out a chair at the table. Harper makes her way around and chucks Myles out of his seat so she can sit next to me. With Rayna being passed around and watched by everyone, I fall into an easy conversation with Harper. I find she’s actually softer than I judged her to be.

“When he’s home, you’ll have to come by for playdates with Rayna.”

“Sure, and you’re obviously always welcome at Leo’s. It’ll be nice to have some company too.”

She picks up my phone from the table and taps away on the screen. “Now you’ve got my number. Any time you want to talk, hit me up.”

She shuffles closer to me and holds my phone out to take a selfie of the two of us. I make sure my hands aren’t in the shot and smile. For once, I’m actually happy.

I feel like Harper could be a real friend.

Time passes and while talking with Harper, I keep my eye on Rayna. She’s having the time of her life being cooed over and a few of the brothers dancing with her.

The club really is a family and jealousy runs through me, still feeling like an outsider.

Leo stands and calls for everyone’s attention. It takes no time before everyone is looking his way.

“We all know what’s coming and there isn’t a fucker here who isn’t ready. Nights like tonight is why we fight. So we preserve what’s at the heart of our club.” The brothers cheer and bang on tables. “If Effie Rathbone thinks she’ll be the victor out of this war we’ve found ourselves in, she’s in for one hell of an awakening. Who are we?”

As one, the brothers yell, “Lost Souls till we die!”

“I don’t think I fucking heard you,” Leo roars.

“Lost Souls till we die!”

Their chants fill every inch of the bar and for a second, I think they shake the walls. They look to Leo, and I see who they see looking back at them. He has a power about him that screams he’s a leader. And when I look around the brothers, I see men who will blindly follow him, trust him, and lay down their lives for him.

In the corner of my eye, I see Zara by the pool table, and I don’t like how she’s looking at Leo. I curb my jealousy. Tonight’s not the night to let her ruin the enjoyment I’ve been having.

Though, in my mind, Leo has been spending every night with me this week, does that mean he hasn’t been with her? When would he have the time? No. I’m not doing this. He’s been in my bed, not hers.

The brothers surround the bar, wanting refills and the music grows louder. Rayna goes to run by me, and I scoop her up. A few of the brothers are drunk and I can just see her getting knocked over.
