Pulling my phone out of my cut pocket, I have no missed calls or texts from Holly. I bring her name up in the contacts and my thumb hovers over the screen. I should call her, make sure she’s okay, make sure she’s set the alarm and locked up, but I don’t.

I go into the gallery and swipe through the pictures. They’re mostly of Ray but there are a few of Holly with her. I love this woman and yet I’m the one who causes her the most pain.

I set the picture of her and Rayna posing for the camera as my wallpaper and power down the phone.

Swiping the whisky up from the floor, I twist the cap off and toss it on the floor. I’ll deal with this tomorrow. Tonight, I need to shut down.

Is someone pounding at the door or is it my head? I roll over and the bottle from last night rolls onto the floor with a thud. Sitting up, the pounding starts up again and I get up and swing the door open.

“Alright, Prez.” Angel beams. “Luca said to wake your ass up. It’s after midday.”

Shit.

“I hope you packed a toothbrush. Your whisky breath is making me feel drunk.”

Leaning on the door for support, I flip him the finger and he walks off, laughing.

I find a bathroom and wash up before finding everyone in the kitchen. I greet everyone before plonking my ass at the table.

“Here, eat this. Hopefully you’ll look better once you’ve eaten,” Victoria says, and I thank her for the bacon, egg, and sausage.

“So you cook for him? You said you only cook for Luca ’cause you wear his ring.”

I forget his name in the hangover fog and dig into the food.

“He’s her bro-in-law, dipshit,” King mutters and Luca snorts.

Luca. Something is tugging on the edge of my mind and as my eyes draw toward Victoria, she passes Luca, and he subtly rubs her stomach.

The only thing standing between me and my pregnant old lady…

How the fuck didn’t that register?

Luca smirks my way and I reach out and slap his shoulder. Victoria grins down at me as she pours me a coffee and I give her a wink.

“So, how long are you sticking around?” Angel asks.

“I’ll head out later. I wanna look around and talk to Luca first.”

I finish my food and Victoria goes to take my plate over to the sink. Covering her hand with mine, I stop her.

“I got it.”

I slide the empty plate over to Ford and jerk my chin. “Get on it.”

He takes my plate without an argument, and I laugh.

A Doberman strolls into the kitchen and sniffs my arm. I’d heard Luca had picked up a stray for Victoria, but I didn’t realise how big it would get.

“I told him you’re a friend. You don’t need to be scared,” Victoria tells me before the dog plods over to her and nuzzles against her thigh.

“Why the fuck would I be scared?”

Dogs don’t bother me, even the ones who have tried attacking me over the years.

“Because unless Victoria tells him you’re a friend, then he tries to kill you,” Angel informs me.

Cocking my brow, I wait for clarification from my brother.
