“The club won’t be the same without you.”

“That’s what I’m hoping. Be who I raised you to be, and the club will go even further than I could ever take it. I have the chance to give you the patch, and not because I’m in the fucking ground. I never saw that coming.”

“You ready to deal with Mom twenty-four seven?” Luca snorts.

“All this free time I’ll have on my hands, who knows? You might get another brother or sister.”

His face crinkles in disgust, and I bellow out a deep laugh.

Leo mutters, “I fucking hope not.”

“Nah. We’ve been fucking all these years, and you haven’t had any new siblings, so I think we’ll be fine.”

“Okay, I’m out. I can’t be listening to this shit.”

My laugh chases him out of the back room, and dies instantly when JJ comes running into the bar.

“Cas, you need to see this.”

He disappears outside, leaving me to chase him up to the roof with Leo on my heels.

The wind is picking up as I climb to the top of the ladder and step onto the roof.

“What’s going on?” I snap.

Sparky points out beyond the gates. “Look.”

The local cops are driving away, and the sheriff is pacing with her walkie talkie in hand.

They’re leaving?

“What’s going on?” I repeat.

“Not sure. Something’s happened, though. The sheriff got on her radio, and then her men were jumping into their cars and speeding off. She’s been pacing for the last few minutes.”

Over my shoulder, I bark out, “Get the prospect on the scanner.”

Glaring up at us, the sheriff calls the rest of her men, and they too are soon flying down the road.

Gathering together, the feds are about to make contact with us when two SUVs drive up from the opposite direction the sheriff drove off in.

“Who the hell is this?” I mutter.

JJ returns to the roof and informs me, “There’s been a huge explosion at the Dead Rats’ farmhouse. Casualties everywhere. They’ve brought in fire trucks from Roseville to help handle the flames before they reach the forest.”

“The Haywards?” Sparky asks.

I shrug. “Fuck knows.”

A woman in a black pantsuit climbs out of one of the SUVs and walks over to the guy who seems to be in charge. Handing him an envelope, she steps back while he opens it and reads whatever the fuck is inside. Hands clasped in front her, she doesn’t flinch when the guy chucks the papers across the road.

None of us speak a word. We just watch, waiting to see what shit we have to deal with next.

The guy stares up at us, looking none too happy, while the woman chases the papers around the road, yelling something over at him.

He spins his finger in the air, telling the feds to move out. Before we can blink, they too are driving off.

The woman walks past her SUV to the second one. The back window lowers, and she retrieves a brown envelope. Once she’s back in her vehicle, it pulls away and my phone rings.
