He’s truly thinking like a president, and I couldn’t be prouder.

“In return, we want Effie dead in the next seven days.”

And there it is.

It hits me that this will be Leo’s first act as president. I should inform the Haywards of the changes in the club, but the brothers need to hear it first.

“We don’t particularly care if it’s messy or under the radar, just as long as it gets done. The future will be bright for both our organisations, but only when she’s out of the picture,” Austin advises.

“Jamie Boy told us about your plans to set up a new charter in Dog City, and we think it’s a good move for us both. We’ve built a good relationship, and we’ll need each other in the city. We’re aware of the deal you’ve made with the Dog’s Blood gang, and we’ll take your word that they won’t be a problem. But to us… we feel it would work better if they patched into your club. We want strong footholds in the city, and if there are too many factions, it leaves room for ambition,” Ritchie surmises.

I narrow my eyes. “It’s not as easy as you think to take over a gang. They’re loyal to their identity,” Luca interjects. “Darius and his boys already depend on us. As long as we keep it that way, there won’t be a problem. Unless you’re telling us to bring them in, it won’t happen.”

Fuck, my boys are so right for this.

Ritchie smothers a smirk, and Jamie Boy just stares at Luca. Cody and Austin stare at us all, and we, as a club, stare right the fuck back.

There will always be a thread of tension, but time will tell if Leo and the Haywards can toe the line.

Jamie Boy nods. “As long as you keep them in check, there won’t be a problem.”

“If there is, it’ll be our problem, and we’ll sort it,” Luca insists.

“Then it’s settled.” Ritchie gets to his feet. “You’ll kill Effie, and we all move into the city like one big happy fucking family.”

Standing, Cody says, “Once the bitch is down, there’ll only be two of us in the States at any one time, as we still have London to rule. We’ll depend on your club to see that we’re safe while we’re here, and our interests remain lucrative while we’re not.”

“Hey, as long as it benefits us, we benefit you,” I tell him, a warning in my tone.

With that, they’re on their way, leaving us to deal with Effie.

“I’msure after the last few days, you all want to get home and sleep in your own beds. But before you go, I have an announcement.”

The brothers go quiet, giving me their full attention.

“As you all know, the new charter in Dog City is close to being finalised, and we’ve found a property that’s perfect for a club to move into. We’ve struck up a deal with Darius and his boys. As for our part, we’ll need brothers on the ground and running. For the brothers here who have been around the longest, you’ve watched my son Luca grow from the day he was born. Over the last year, you’ve seen him in action, earning him the patch. I’m putting his name forward to wear the president’s patch in Dog City.”

“Cas, he’s barely got hair on his balls,” a brother calls out. I have to bite down on my bottom lip to keep from snapping at him.

“The charter in Dog City is a new era. It needs youth, and a hunger to be cutthroat. It’s not Willow’s Peak. Luca understands this. He has the trust of Darius and his boys, and he has no ties to here, apart from us, and we’re not going anywhere.”

“He has Victoria here. She wasn’t made for the city,” Mason insists, jumping from his seat. “She belongs here with her family.”

Standing, Luca informs his brother-in-law, “She’s already agreed to make the move.”

Mason looks down at Myles, conversing silently. Before Myles nods, Mason explains, “We’re not against you being president. Hell, we actually think you’d be perfect. But Victoria won’t be happy there. You’re asking too much of her.”

Luca takes a deep breath, and I fight not to step in and argue on his behalf. I’m pushing for him to be a leader, so the brothers need to see him hold his own.

“Tor is my old lady, and where I go, she goes. But to stop your fucking tears, we’ve already agreed she’ll come home a couple times a month, or whenever she wants to. If I’m voted in, she’ll be at my side, Mason, no fucking doubt about it.”

“You married her. You know deep down she’ll hate it.”

“I did marry her, and I know she’ll be fine.”

“What’s she to do in a city full of concrete? What happens if you hit trouble and she’s left alone?”

Luca fists his hands, and I can only pray he doesn’t lose his shit.
