Ismell like campfire.

Blinking her bleary eyes, Willow rubbed at them, wincing. They felt gritty and sore—most likely from the smoke from the fire last night.

What time is it?

She couldn’t remember what time she’d gotten into bed last night, but Willow didn’t care. Everything had been perfect. Everything had been extraordinary. Closing her eyes, she smiled to herself, resting her head back on the pillow. The last thing she remembered was Asher picking her up as though she weighed absolutely nothing, carrying her into her parents’ house and then setting her down in a bed in one of the guest rooms.

She must have fallen asleep right way.

Rolling over, Willow jerked in surprise. Who was lying next to her?

It took her a second to realize.

Asher.

Her nose wrinkled as she smiled. They both smelled like campfire.

They were still in the same clothes from the night before, and they both definitely could do with a shower.

Although probably not together.Well, maybe.

Heat flushed her cheeks, but Willow let herself sigh happily, watching him for a moment and seeing the slow rise and fall of his chest. He was still fast asleep, and she wasn’t about to wake him up.

Her eyes closed. She still didn’t know what had come over her. One minute, he was standing next to her, and the next minute, she was kissing him. A small smile crawled over her lips. Turning back over slowly, she climbed carefully out of bed.

Thank goodness he kissed her back.

A slight shudder ran over her frame as she imagined what would have happened if he hadn’t and had pushed her gently away instead.

Wandering downstairs, Willow tried to keep the smile from her face.

“Good morning, Peanut.” Ruffling the dog’s head affectionately, Willow smiled at her mom as she walked into the kitchen. “Good morning, Mom. I didn’t expect you to be up so early.”

“Early?” Meredith raised an eyebrow and laughed. “Honey, it’s nearly noon! But I will say I haven’t been up for too long. Last night was pretty tiring.”

“Oh.” Aware of a slight flush that warmed her cheeks, Willow tried to brush it aside. “Yes, I was pretty tired, too.”

Walking across the kitchen to pour Willow a cup of coffee, her mom waved a hand in her direction

“You did a lot to help organize my birthday party, and I really appreciate it. It was a great night, wasn’t it?”

Don’t give anything away. You can’t give anything away.

“Yes, it was, and I had a blast. When you first mentioned those drums, I thought they sounded a bit…out there, but actually, they were one of the best things about the night.”

Meredith chuckled. “See, I told you!” Adding a dash of cream to Willow’s coffee, she handed it to her with a smile. “I’m really glad you enjoyed yourself.”

“Well, I’d say that was a birthday party to remember.”

Willow turned just as her dad walked into the kitchen. He dropped a kiss to her cheek and then came over to speak to his wife. “And happy birthday. You’re even more beautiful now than when we first met, Meredith.”

“And you’re still a charmer!”

Turning away slightly so that her parents could have a small, private moment together, Willow let a small sigh escape from her lips.

Maybe one day, this will be me and Asher.
