Finally, I didn’t have to worry about the chill in the air anymore, because he warmed me right up.
“You like it?”
“I love it,” I whispered. “Thank you.” I wholeheartedly meant every single word.
He squeezed me tight as we watched the magnificent show that carried on for the next twenty or so minutes. The entire time my throat was clogged with emotions, and butterflies flew around in my belly like wild, unrestrained creatures.
When the bright lights finally stopped exploding above us, silence filled the space around us. The only thing to be heard was the very loud, erratic sound of my heart attempting to beat its way right out of my chest.
“You’re spoiling me, Finn. A girl could get used to this. You better be careful, because if you keep this up, you might never be able to get rid of me.” It was a warning I hoped he took seriously, because I meant it to be.
He ran his nose up the column of my throat. “Baby, I’m hoping and praying you’ll be stupid enough to never want to leave me, because when you see me for who I really am, you’re going to want to run fast and far, and you’re never going to want to look back.”
Was he crazy?
I laughed, because he had to be joking. I was the fucked up one here. Hell, I couldn’t even sit down next to the river without thinking about having a slight panic attack. If someone should be running, it should be him and not me.
Finn nuzzled my neck, and I felt a distinct hardness beneath my ass that I just knew was his dick, and I had an urge to grind my ass against it. My panties were starting to get damp, and it was almost painful not to rub myself against him. He was trailing tiny kisses along my neck, which wasn’t really making matters any better either.
Finn stood up suddenly with me in his arms, and I squealed embarrassingly. He lifted me as if I weighed nothing. He sat me down and quickly backed away from me.
I tilted my head to the side as I watched him rush around to pick up the basket and the cooler. He held both in front of his crotch, and I couldn’t keep the grin from my lips. That was definitely a massive erection he was attempting to hide in his pants.
Why he was trying to hide that thing from me, I had no idea. I liked knowing that it was me who put him in such a state.
He cleared his throat. “Will you grab the blanket for me, please? My hands are kind of full.”
So were his pants, but I kept that thought to myself as I folded the blanket and tried not to laugh my ass off. This side of him was actually quite adorable to witness.
We walked back to the car in silence, but thankfully it wasn’t uncomfortable in the slightest. I didn’t think it was possible for me to be uncomfortable in Finn’s presence. There was something about him that just put me at ease now that I was past my original shyness.
I didn’t give him the chance to ask as we got in the car, I just hooked up my phone and played my music. Modest Mouse filled the car because I wanted to give him a break after torturing him earlier with my secret love of country music.
He held my hand on my thigh the entire drive, and I wasn’t even going to lie, I shifted around on the seat, hoping my dress would ride up a little bit so that our hands might actually be on my bare thigh. A little skin on skin was something that I very much wanted to experience. Sadly today wasn’t my day.
Ariel’s Range Rover was parked in front of the cabin beside Rain’s SUV. He was home, and all the lights were on, and the entire cabin was lit up brightly.
Finn parked the Charger beside the Rover and shut it off. I hadn’t expected that. I’d sort of thought he’d drop me off and leave immediately because his erection might have gone down, but I figured he might still want to touch it or whatever in order to make himself feel better.
Finn grabbed my bag of goodies from the toy store as I got out of the car. He walked me up to the door, and before he could do anything I might enjoy all too much like, say, kiss me, the front door opened and Rain was suddenly there.
What kind of bullshit was this? Was he trying to ruin my life?
“You’re late,” Rain grumbled as he crossed his arms over his chest. “I was expecting you to be home at least half an hour ago.”
My mouth dropped open as I stared up at him in shock. He had to be joking. I didn’t have a curfew, and he sure as shit wasn’t my dad. Sure, one day hopefully soon he might be mydaddy,but he’dneverbe my dad.
We needed some clear boundaries before Rain got even more out of control.
Finn laughed as he handed over my bag to freaking Rain. If the older man looked inside, we were going to have some problems.
“I’ll give you this one, Rain. Well played. Next time I’ll just have to kiss her before I bring her home to you, and you’ll just have to wonder and use your imagination then, so good luck with that.”
Yay, Finn definitely wanted to kiss me. Something to look forward to.
Rain practically snarled at Finn, and I moved between the two of them. I stood up on my tippy toes and gently pressed my palm flat against Finn’s chest. I pressed my lips to the underside of Finn’s jaw in a quick kiss before dropping back to my feet and stepping back.
I stepped right back into a hard chest. Rain wrapped his arm around my chest and dragged me back into the house. The screen door slammed shut right in Finn’s face.
